I watched the first 2 episodes and it was so good!! I saw a trailer during the superbowl and I knew I had to check it out. And I think it's even better than I thought it would be. Definitely worth watching. It's a bit like Game of thrones everybody's fighting for power and playing politics just there's no supernatural forces just Japanese and western people all being calculating.

Honestly I love so many shows or movies about Japan but this stands out. I hope it succeeds it must have cost a lot of money to make so I hope they make the money back and more so they'll make more of this show and others like it.

I still admire the TV mini-series with Richard Chamberlain from 1980... I'm not sure if I want to change my perception of that, lol

You should give the new one a shot :) They brought in Hiroyuki Sanada one of the most famous japanese actors he was in The Last Samurai and many other things and he's producing this series. They made it very authentic to the real history. They even have gesture coaches who teach the actors how people used to behave back then. And the budget must be big because the scenery looks amazing. There's more of a split focus between the main character and the Japanese characters so you can see more about what is going on and understand peoples motivations etc.
