Oppenheimer was kinda boring. I wish it revealed more shocking details about the operation. I thought for the quality of the information, it could have been a little more theatrical.
The script was mid. The acting was phenomenal. The directing was mid. The cinematography was very good. The decision to do black and white I thought was a little extra. Didn't really add anything to the movie, but it was done sort of nicely. The director could have chosen better shots to let the cinematography really shine.
And the biggest sin in that movie was the bomb scene. It was boring and the visuals looked exactly like they just blew a ton of explosives. There was nothing spectacular about it either from a technical view or as an average viewer. Would have been better off if they just did did cgi.
The colorist was also really good. One moment where their work really shined ironically was in the bomb scene where the flash of light illuminated the bunker. If you saw it in imax, it was just taking full advantage of the technical abilities of an imax projector and the way the bleech bypass effect was blended in to the hilights was awesome. (even though they probably used a technique everyone's been using since davinci resolve became more common.)
It was worth multiple awards, but there were a lot of things they oppenheimer won that other movies were probably better suited for.
That's just what happens, it's a Hollywood popularity contest.
it is suspicious.
in this case easier to notice, trying to twist "evil democrat president seem justified" but cannot.
It’s an annual competition.
It’s the best movie of that year.
The 2024 Oscars focus on movies that came out in 2024 exclusively.
Yes, there are better movies made in different years.
Also, the Oscars are rigged as fuck why do you think Studio Ghibli has lost to goddamn Disney multiple times despite their movies being objectively better? Because Disney markets to them and holds campaign parties, I’m sure Oppenheimer was no different when they realized they were competing with Barbie and saw what an embarrassment it would be to lose to that.
Just like the modern music industry, it is all a scam that brainwashes people into thinking something is much better than it actually is.

Well only 34% of the academy's members are women...

While the representation is better than a few years ago where it was only like 18% and very few poc it's still great.
Still not great*
I would say Oppenheimer is famous for its theme and not its movie content. I found the movie to be typical and unimpressive but I had poor audio cause I watched it on an airplane with very bad headphones so maybe I would have liked it more if I had high quality sound in the background.
Most of the movies today are just so bad it there is two or three movies that don;t suck it is a big deal.
well let's face it: there's not a big choice of "good" movies. most movies are crap, so the rare cream of the crop movies get all the awards.
but was this good quality? obviously not.
@strateguy632 let's say it was the least stinking pile of crap xD
It’s media bias, it happens a lot in that particular industry.
Overrated, Godzilla: Minus One was WAY better. It was so good you’d forget you’re reading subtitles 10 minutes or less through the movie.
Because it has nothing to do with whether a film is actually good or not and everything to do with who the industry wants to give favour to.
Yeah…. its suspicious. And why do they bother putting ads in Hollywood Reporter? I guess the voting process isn’t that fair. Life…
Good question, I don't watch the Oscars any more.
