Especially in earlier years, Black Girl Bands derived their sound from Black Church Choir. Disco star Donna Summer and countless Motown and South Philly bands did. That sound has an hypnotic effect as does (!) Gregorian Chant. Many non-Black American singers can emulate that sound like Chris Stapleton and the prehistoric Peggy Lee. Destiny's Child/Beyonce has that sound as did Whitney Houston (MSRIP). They are successful because they sound good.
