I know love and affection can -and should!- be expressed all throughout the year, but for some reason there are special moments on our social calendar when love demostrations acquire even larger dimensions.
Christmas is one of those moments. Forget about it being a commercial day (because in a way it is: capitalism and consumism love these kinds of dates ;) ), but it's much more than that. It's a social and cultural tradition that goes beyond what money can buy. I'm not religious, so Christmas doesn't represent a catholic value to me either, but instead a moment where all of us feel that it's fair to wish something with all our hearts... and get it!
We may all wish for different things: the latest smart phone, the coolest video game, the most fashionable clothes, or even just nothing in this regard. But what WE ALL wish for, no matter how willing to admit it we are, is LOVE, in any of its shapes: from family, from lover, from friends, etc.
So I think the best presents we can all give on Christmas to the people we care for are two: showing affection and being present.
