Why does he text me everyday if he only wants friendship?

So I met this guy online about 2 months ago..He works out of town and comes back in for two weeks of the month. From the day started talking, we have text each other everyday for two months. We went out once (dinner & movie) about 2 weeks ago when he was in(1st time meeting so he just walked up and gave me a hug-no kissing or anything crazy)... We had a good time, he text me when he made it home to let me know and said goodnight.. I usually send him a text during the day and AS SOON as he gets off work, he texts me back..we text back & forth for about an hour and half till he goes to sleep (he has to get up early). We text about everything from likes/dislikes, family, troubles with past relationships, etc etc and each night we say goodnight, sweet dreams, ttyt etc etc..He has said on a couple of occasions he is just looking for a friend right now (we both got out of relationships about 5mnths ago) and that anything between a friendship and relationship just complicates the friendship and he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize my friendship because he values it.. I am cool with the friend thing. BUT if I don't text him during the day as soon as he gets off work he sends me a text asking if things are cool because I didn't text him or he will say he had a bad day because he didn't see my text or my texts make him smile etc etc.. BUT again he says he is just looking for a friend? I don't text any of my friends everyday..none of them.. I like him, and would be open to more than friendship but not sure what he is thinking and don't want to ruin anything between us? Do guys really just text female friends everyday and want only friendship? I mean is he just shy or not interested? What do I do?

Right off the bat : I'm married and my best friend is female. While we don't text often (I hate texting personally) I do talk to my friend often and we do lunch once or twice a week. I have no interest in this girl outside of the platonic, so yes, it is possible and quite common in my experience.

From your story, my guess is this guy is probably attracted to you to some degree, but is actually interested in pursuing the friendship instead of something more.

If I were you I'd keep the friendship and keep my eyes open to other possibilities. And you never know, he may change his mind. But don't sit around waiting.

I've been texting someone all week none stop. We have a class together which is how we met. I'm undecided about her because I think she has a boyfriend. But I think we'd be compatible. But other than her, if I text my friend girls, it'd be strictly for meeting up. I have come across people that text all day with opposite sex friend though.
