My boyfriend and I are in our mid twenties. We've been together almost 2 years and live together. About 5 months ago we moved to his hometown so he could pursue his career. Things were going great before the move and he had even taken me ring shopping. We used to be able to talk about anything and spent a lot of time together. He was romantic and really sweet, so it didn't seem like an issue to move away with him.
But ever since we moved to his hometown, he has completely changed. He hardly ever goes out with me (the last time we went out was about 6 weeks ago) and says he's just too tired. But when his friends or family want to hang out, he's all for it but he goes without me. He's no longer affectionate and barely talks to me at all. Every time I try to talk to him about his changes, he gets defensive and it always turns into an argument. A few times, I just cried and went to bed, and he didn't even go in to try to patch things up like he normally would have in the past.
Anticipating a break-up, I went ahead and began looking for a job back in my hometown. About two weeks ago, while I was away on a family trip, he broke up with me saying he loves me but isn't happy anymore. Although I saw it coming, I was devastated but I felt no choice other than to just agree to the break-up. The next day, I actually got a call for a job and I set up an interview.
When I got back home from my trip, I told him about the job and let him know that if it works out, I may be moving in 2 weeks. I thought this would be good news to him since he broke up with me and was unhappy...Well, he told me that he made a mistake and wants to work things out. He asked me to please think about it and give him another chance and that he knows he screwed up. He promised to do what it takes to make things be the way they were before.
So...I canceled the interview. It's been a week now and nothing has changed. We had plans a few days ago and he canceled because he was tired. Then his friend called yesterday (which was our only day off together) and he hung out with him all day. Oh and after I turned down the job, he went ahead and let me know he's going out of town for a week to visit a relative.
What gives? I've asked if he's cheating and he swears he's not, He says he loves me and wants to be with me but his actions don't match. What do I do and what is going on?
