+1 yIt sounds like he’s just your friend, right? In that case, maybe you’re nervous because you see him as more than friends and want his parents to like you enough to be dating their son, which is significantly more than if you were just friends.
If this is the case, I would talk to your friend about it beforehand, make sure both of your motives are aligned with each other. He may want to introduce you to them to see what they think of you in a romantic capacity, especially if he’s close with his family, because he wants the parental stamp of approval.
One way or another, just relax and be yourself ☺️18 Reply- +1 y
Its giving me anxiety. They have met me before too!! (Long time ago though) I would talk to him, which is a good idea, but I’m going over tomorrow and I would rather do it in person you know? He hardly answer his texts 😂
- +1 y
Oh man, that sounds rough 😣
I do think it’s necessary to establish your intentions with each other before the parents ask, though - +1 y
I know!!! I can get very anxious because i want to make a good impression but i am really trying not to let it show. I guess I should have mentioned it sooner but in the moment i didn't think anything of it you know? But now that its tomorrow, im really going to struggle to sleep 😂
- +1 y
Just be your best self, wear a nice outfit, and be respectful. If you have a hard time sleeping, try taking some melatonin and watch a show that is distracting. That always helps me sleep when I’m stressed ☺️

Thankyou!! 💙 also he just texted me asking what time I want to come over, but i feel like its rude if i suggest a time as its not my house? You know? What shall I respond
- +1 y
Tell him to ask his parents when they’ll be ready, don’t make a time yourself. If he says something like “they said it’s up to you,” tell him whenever they normally have dinner would be fine with you, if you are having dinner?
- +1 y
Okay. Thankyou!!!

Any time! And let me know how it goes!

Because its awkward. Simply awkward. Since you are not in a relationship and in their time it wasn't comon to have friends of the opposite sex. Just try to stay calm and make the mom like you. I have experience on this one trust me girl. Be as nice and you'll be okay. Dont worry too much about it you are there for your friend, not his family.. X

It’s normal. Get drunk beforehand to relax your nerves. Maybe some ambien to go with your drink.

That’s a terrible idea...

@Tiaroendu479 I was just kidding. It’s obvious people wouldn’t do that.
There's nothing to be done about it. You'll probably feel nervous, because you want them to accept you.
Talk about it with your boyfriend and just be the usually you. Towards the parents, usually it isn't something done in western cultures, but I did brought a little gift with me like some flowers and just being respectful and polite towards them helps always.13 Reply- +1 y
I personally think I have good manners, but what makes me nervous is more like going in taking shoes off, and like eating with them etc. I dont mind the talking aspect. Everything else worries me 😂 i know it sounds weird
- +1 y
If you don't know what you should do then you should ask naturally right? Ask your boyfriend if they do not wear shoes in house and just put them off if he does it as well. If you get invite yaay awkward dinner! Just try to make small talk with their parents or with everyone involved. Give thanks for the dinner and perhaps offer your help to clean the dishes.
You can't really do anything "wrong" if you do not know it is wrong. For every family it is different! - +1 y
I know his family take shoes off at the door, which of course I’ll do. And yes offering to help clean up is a great idea!!
1.9K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Parents aren't an alien species. They are just people with children. Most parents want their children to be happy, and they are pleased when their child meets a potential mate. They are probably thrilled he is being you home. They really want to like you. So don't worry. Just be your usual charming self and they will.

@JSmith925 thankyou
You don't need to be afraid or scared. If your guy friend is good with it then you both can meet them and tell them about your relationship if he isn't prepared then, I have nothing else to say. Remember they are also parents like anyone else has and they care as much of Thier son as your parents do to you
10 ReplyCause you're having sexual thoughts about them!! No.. cause you've slept with your boyfriend and you think they'll know.
30 ReplyJust accept that you're nervous and go and meet them. Don't run from your problems because you'll never solve them otherwise.

+1 yAct natural. Don't let them see the dead bodies in the fridge. In all seriousness, you want to project a good image. Deep down you feel like you have something to prove. You want their acknowledgement. Don't worry too much, just be yourself.

+1 yEstablish dominance. Make eye contact and demand a sacrifice. Urinate on your friend in front of his parents and mark your territory. Its the only way.
20 ReplyDon't be anything but yourself. If being you is a problem to them, then you couldn't have done anything more. I'm sure it'll all go fine, everybody gets nervous about that stuff though.
