Do you remember to appreciate the little things?

As we're running around chasing what we think will make us happy. Do you take the time? To appreciate a beautiful sunset. The delightful laughter of an innocent child? The small acts of kindness people bestow on us?
Life isn't/shouldn't be about fancy cars/homes, how many big screen TVs we own. People are so busy chasing an 'elusive' happiness when true happiness is staring them right in the face with the little things we take for granted, have forgotten to appreciate. The little things that really matter the most in life

I appreciate little things all the time. Flowers in our garden and even tiny wildflowers that grow close to the ground; birds, lizards and wild animals that come to visit; bees and butterflies that go happily about their work; puffy clouds; a blustery breeze on a warm, sunny day; sunsets; the comfort of our simple home; fresh well water; fresh citrus from our trees; the availability of energy; music; electrical devices; my wife; my silly cat; friends; and good food are things that I appreciate on a daily basis. I also appreciate friendly smiles, simple courtesies and small kindnesses from strangers. Little things surround us every moment if we choose to see.

I don't care at all for conspicuous consumption, brand name clothes, ostentatious home, flashy car, or expensive toys.

Lost my dad bout 3 weeks ago, all i remember is the small things, his laugh. His smell, his voice, always counting on seeing him in the same kind of clothes plaid shirt brown pants,
Small moments hearing Somthing cool and rushing to share with him, the way he played with my dog, he didn't deserve cancer, he could have gotten a better deal. But he went the best way he could have and now he's home where he wanted to be.

Everything you said is what I've been trying to express to people. When we lose a loved one, the money, the material possessions, that's not what mattered. That's not what we remember or miss the most.
It's the memories of who they were, how they made us feel and the little things that did for us in life. Sounds like you have great memories to cherish.
And he's never truly gone. He lives on in your heart and memories.❤️

I always admire the trees and the sunlight. They are always beautiful in my eyes. The blue sky, the moon, and the waves on the beach, all the birds i see flying above me, the wind. I really love going outside when it's not too hot anymore. That's one source of joy for me.
I always take a picture whenever there's something's that i think is beautiful.

Unfortunately my phone's camera isn't good enough to take a picture of the moon or sunset.
I always end up disappointed because everytime i take a picture of the sunset it looks really dull. The color isn't as pretty as the actual sunset.
So yeah, i enjoy small things in life.
Especially nature.

Beautiful pics. I used to be that way. Then I let struggles and tragedies in life consume the person I used to be. Trying to get back, but it's hard sometimes. But beautiful pics like that are a good reminder.

All the time... love nature. What the earth gives us.
The people who came to my life. Those who lifted me, encouraged me.
what I like more, is, I too am sharing those little things with the people I come encounter with.

Whenever I walk through a garden... i love to stop and smell the flowers, feel each pedal. Stop to look at the bees, butterflies. I also look at myself... think about how fortunate I am. Where I am, who I am.
I have all the basic needs and more.
I can wake up each morning, get off my bed, and able to make a cup of tea, taste the flavor, smell the aroma.
Sometimes, we take these for granted...
I always remind my students, how fortunate we are to have our moms and dads, our loved ones, food on the table...
I can go on... :)
Be kind, be loving, to yourself and to others.

I'm kind of a romantic type so I tend to attach sentiment and imagination to little things. For example, I horrify my wife when I get so happy eating $1 McDonald's cheeseburger, and she asks me how on earth I could like it. But I tell her that I imagine I'm inside a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and there's nothing to eat besides like canned dog food. And I haven't eaten for days. Then I stumble across this cheeseburger, and so it is so amazing. I tend to think like that. I add value to the little things by trying to find a "poetry" to it.

Also canned beans. I prefer to eat them cold without heating it up, and this also horrifies my wife. But the reason I like them cold is that now I am from outer space. I have been traveling through space for ages looking for a planet I can live in. I've been living on these nutrient packets in my spaceship for a whole year. Then I discover a blue planet -- it is planet earth. I land there and only find piles of bones -- some war has ravaged this land. But I stumble upon an underground bunker and it is lined with canned foods... including this can of beans. So I pop the can and eat it cold and it's the most amazing thing ever. It is like magic.

Seriously though maybe if we imagine it could be worse, we'd appreciate more before it really becomes worse. I'm guilty of that sometimes.

She thinks I'm a crazy person. I might be. :-D But I do that for lots of things. Food is the most simple example... but also little memories, sentiments. I'm prone to cliches as well. Well, I'm okay with cultural cliches and ideas of romance. It's like a candlelit room can be the most romantic thing ever or, to some cultures, just a room with bad lighting. And I'm okay with the cultural influence. I prefer to see it as romantic. I enjoy my life more thinking like this. I don't want to take the "magic" out of things with some cynical view.

Cheers, thanks! I tend to attach value to things not based on price tag though for sure. It's like I do it by seeing the "magic" in it. I try to find the "magic" in things. I get depressed when I stop seeing the "magic" in things. So I try to make a habit of trying to find ways to see things as magical... the little things. And I have a pretty crazy imagination, and bounced between several cultures growing up. So I have lots of references to guide me to find the magic in things.

I do this as often as I can and I encourage my kids and husband to do the same. On evenings we sit and watch the sunset and the clouds. On sundays we take our kids to various points to do sight seeing like on cliffs or in my island we have hill with a view point, I go to the park, board walks on evenings just to take in the views. I encourage my family to appreciate the beauty around us cuz we are really fortunate to live in a place where we have this all year round.

I do! I very much appreciate the sunset when I am available to see it... I don't have a child but I do hear children crying and whinning a lot and that is not a pleasant sound! I work at Walmart so lol... I have heard a child laugh... it's ok... and yes I do appreciate the small things! They do add to my happiness... but I'd rather have peace of mind not just happiness. :- )

People who don't appreciate small things usually don't get to the big ones or don't even notice that they have them. The very negative neglectful mindset keeps them blind and miserable.
