People who get off the phone saying "I'll call you back", but then never call back, what do you think that means?

Is that just an excuse to get off the phone because they don't want to talk to you anymore? Does it mean they're just very absentminded and forget to call back?
Is it just a normal way to end a phone call, with no meaning behind it at all?
What do you think? And do you ever do this to people?

I personally think this is rude. They should just say they have to go, instead of making a false promise to call back later. It seems a bit cowardly to say that, if it's just for the reason of not hurting the person's feelings.

I've had several exes who did this regularly. Earlier this week, I was talking to a female friend and she did this also, so that made me start thinking about it again and wondering why people do this.

My sister plays the (I’ll Call You Back Game) all the time & she simply forgets to call you back. A week or two later she texts me & I don’t answer & next thing you know my phone rings.

It's strange how she could forget about talking to you for weeks at a time. It seems like it would have popped into her head by then.

I love my sister but when it comes to some things all I can say is that she’s a ditz! When my sisters says she’ll call you back I just laugh & the funny thing is that she does this with my other sister as well. It’s like she is in her own time zone. When she comes to visit she’ll call & say she is right around the corner & shows up 4 hours later. When she says she’s a few minutes away that means she’s 45 minutes away. When she says she’ll be there in a bit that means she can show up at anytime. The one thing I learned is that there is real world time & her time, two different things.

Last summer when I was at my parents house visiting my sister called & said she’s right around the corner & my mom said ok we’ll wait & all have lunch when you get here. I started laughing & after that I started fixing myself a sandwich. I knew & I told my dad to start making a sandwich too.

Yes this is rude, it's their way of just leading us on,
to me, it makes no sense, if they don't want to talk to us
why not be Man or Woman enough to tell us the truth?

All of the above. Sometimes it's a polite way to end a call when you no longer feel like talking or run out of things to say. Sometimes you intend to call back but get side-tracked by something else. Sometimes it's just habit.

They didn't want to talk to you in the first place LOL that's when I don't call anybody until they call me. And when they only call me because they want something I call them on it and then hang up LOL 😂😂😂

I'm so sick and tired of contacting people; and they never return any call/text or like your question " I'll call you later " ! I can't understand it either, some say they hadxgood intentions but good intentions dont mean shit , unless they follow through...

I don't know I think it is dumb. I have a friend that almost always ends his phone calls that way and he has even when he was high school age. He is in his late 30s now and still ends phone calls that way. It makes no sense.

But what is the point of saying they'll call back later, if they don't intend on doing that?

They intend to call back later.. later is subjective. Doesn’t imply in a day or week. It’s just an acknowledgment you will communicate again but no they are not adding your callback to their calendar unless they promise ‘I’ll give you a call tomorrow at 6:00’

Ha ha, you can never have high standards. Just next time ask them to set an expectation. Those type of promises are too open ended. If he says he will call back, you can say ‘sounds good, do you think you can call tomorrow sometime?’
