Is my mother right to be upset because my father didn't care about Valentine's Day?

He already explained the reason why he didn't wish her a happy Valentine's Day nor got her anything. Her message was something like this:
Happy Valentine's Day darling, I wish you a great day.
Well you were never into gifts. You were always a cheapstake but oh. We can still fake it at least for today.

My father was happy with the 1st sentence but she ruined it with all the other things. She basically insulted him, told him to fake it and still expected him to celebrate it and buy her something. So he erased the message, treated it as a normal day and told her to go cry a river, that he ain't giving her anything nor faking anything and to stop acting like a spoiled child.

This is my father's defense:
She isn't counting all the other, random days he has taken her out to a restaurant, fix stuff in the house, helps clean the kitchen sometimes or the other small daily details. All of the sudden the other things don't count at all. She acts like an ungrateful, spoiled grown child.

In his defense he already shows her love every single day so why should one day count but not the rest.

He was actually going to surprise her but she called him a cheapskate and complained. She ruined the mood.
