I’m 26 years old and I live on my own. My dad wants to talk to me on the phone every day and at least every other day. I feel like he’s smothering me?

I don’t always pick up and I feel bad about it. I don’t need to talk with him every day on the phone. When I don’t pick up the phone he gets angry and might call me multiple times that day.

Make sure he knows and hold your ground. If there is nothing to talk about then why make calls. I never had this problem, everyone in my family is independent and been raised as such. There is other way less intrusive to have safety nets.

It's your life you decide how to live it. He needs to respect your wishes to have less frequent contact. Your an adult and live on your own. So he has lost his right to put down rules.

Talk to your father. Some day he won't be here for you to say he's smothering you. So let him and you try to enjoy it.. even if you don't make him feel as if you do.

Both, tell him you still feel tethered if you talk everyday, he may call everyday because you do not pick up
