Parents - Is it OK if your children want to sleep with nothing on (obviously AFTER they're potty-trained)?

This is my first poll so forgive me if I mess up. But I feel strongly about this topic AND I've seen lots of people talk about it on GAG so... what do GAG parents think?

Are you serious? Absolutely NOT! No nudity in our house - it's just wrong!

I don't care - if that's what he or she wants, it's his or her life!

I insist on it - it's much more comfortable and the children sleep better.

Why just SLEEP with nothing on? I NEVER let them wear ANY clothes at home. Clothes are for outside!

What is interesting is that NO women are answering! In MY family, it seems like my mom is the only person who is upset by naked sleeping (or naked anything, TBH). My brothers and cousins don't care and I don't actually know what my dad thinks because it's never come up with him. So, I'd like to know what moms (or stepmoms or grandmas or potential moms or OTHER young females) think.

So my kids are very young, but generally we're very ok with nudity, up to a point. Both of my kids are boys, and often they will even play games or watch movies nude if it's just their dad around. If I had a daughter, I'd be more careful.

With regards to sleeping, that's 100% not up to me. They should do what they want. Your mom might just be trying to enforce certain behaviour because it's what she was raised with herself.

TY! My first “girl” answer. I am sure you are correct about my mom - that’s what I always figured it was.

So, how do you know your boys go naked with Dad when only Dad is around (so you’re not there)? But, regardless, It’s great that you two are OK with that!

Lastly, “If I had a daughter, I’d be more careful.” I don’t quite get this. More careful to not let your boys go naked or not let her be naked in front of them or her dad?

Anyways to clarify, I'd say that I'd be more careful to not let them be nude around opposite sex. So if my husband and the boys are nude fine. Personally I don't necessarily think that our bodies are always in the shape to be nude as we have a bit more complexity going on sometimes, but if my daughter was nude it wouldn't bother me too much. I just wouldn't want any mixing.

Ah, OK, I get that. At one time I thought maybe that was my mom's thing because I'm the only girl, but she doesn't let my brothers go naked either so maybe it's just the "mix" thing. But then, they (bros) can go around in underwear but I can't so - again different treatment. Maybe I'm just whiney. :D

Depends on age I think, for example if it's a baby or child then I guess it being naked isn't a big deal but I think teen Years... they should wear something to just cover their parts, that's simply my opinion tho cause I grew up sleeping with clothing, along with the rest of my fam so to me it would be weird.

Exactly - I think it's important to do what makes YOU comfortable. And I pretty much agree with what you said. Most families do think older kids should wear something around the house (my parents included) but I was asking about the sleeping - like kids in their own rooms. Like if my mom has her friends over for coffee, I'm not going to walk naked into the kitchen for an orange juice! But, in my own room, like reading which I love to do, then if it's really hot or whatever and I want to wear only panties or maybe nothing, then why not? That's sort of why I asked.

@themajesticking777 We have a family rule - you always knock before you go in a bedroom (or closed bathroom). So when I'm in my room naked or just panties or whatever, I always keep a big teeshirt next to me that I can pull on quickly. Keeps Mom & Dad happy!

As long as they put cloths on when they wake up or come out of their room. I preferer sleeping with clothes on and I would teach my kids to do it in case of an emergency and I have to come in there at night... but at some point they reach an age were they can make that choice for themselves.

@DaveJord - OK, this was an interesting answer. Two questions - first, if there was an emergency and you had to go into your child's room, what would it matter if he or she was undressed? Next, the age thing (for them to decide if they want to sleep naked or not) - what age would that be? Thanks!

No it would not matter in an emergency if they were naked... but I would make the point that it could happen and they might get embarrassed if their dad sees them naked.

Usually around 16 or so it get hard to make a teenage do anything they do not want to do.

I know this is your first poll, so I'm not condemning you or anything, but in the future you may way to give an option like "I'm not a parent" or some option. that people can choose if the question isn't directed at them. Otherwise, people who aren't parent may feel compelled to pick one just so they can see the poll results.

Oh, two things... first, I didn't know you can't see the results unless you vote - so thanks. And also, I was wanting to know what PARENTS thought (because I know what my brothers and I think). But, I also included that last one for unusual situations like maybe grandparents or aunts & uncles - or maybe people who aren't parents yet. So, yes, I'll remember that and make it clearer if I ever do another one. :)

And as for being a nudist family, I actually think that would be kind of nice. It gets so hot here in the summers (we have the old family farmhouse built almost a hundred years ago and NO air conditioning) and I wish I could at least go around in just undies like I did when I was little. It's 78º here right now and I'm melting. :(

Yes, especially in the summer!!! Right now, around here, we're only getting up to the mid-fifties during the day so the ironing wouldn't be so bad - but we don't have that much that NEEDS to be ironed!!!

But, then again, we live on a farm so we're not all that formal. In the UK, y'all wear suits and ties to SCHOOL so, yeah, I guess you have lots of ironing! :D

I guess my nearest beach is about nine HUNDRED miles away (and I don't know if they have any "naturist bits" on the beaches down there but that might be fun - HA). Well, it rained here earlier and it's going to be raining again soon. Temps are like mid-fifties so it's not too bad that way, but if we HAD a beach here and if it HAD "naturist bits" I don't think they'd be very crowded! [And, OK, no kilometers but what about temps? If you use Celsius - it should be 13º most of the day here - actually, now that I think about it, it will be 13ºC here most of the day even if you DON'T use Celsius over there!]

From some of the opinions I'm seeing, maybe I was too restrictive asking only parents, but those were the people I wanted to hear from. Like, I'd love to know why my parents (actually, just my mom because I don't even know if my dad cares one way or the other) get so upset about it. But I think I did see something from someone else about "what do you wear when you're in bed?" So that's more open for everyone to answer. But also I did include that last option for other situations that didn't fit the answers I provided (which went from very restrictive "no nudity" to ridiculously unrestrictive "mandatory nudity").

Hmm... have to think about that answer. First, my parents don't know what I wear to bed. They think I still wear teeshirts and panties. But "lack of modesty" or "exhibitionist"? I've never thought of myself as either of those. I don't wear "revealing" clothes when I'm out in public (even if Mom wasn't a bit "controlling" on what I wear, I just don't think I'd look good wearing that sort of thing).

No, they don't know. It's funny, I think we have a pretty good relationship and I don't like "hiding" things, but I just know how my mom is about stuff. She got pretty upset the one time she came into my room (I forgot to set my alarm) and she found me on top of the covers with nothing on. She was pretty shocked, I guess you'd say. But, it WAS summertime and very hot and I told her I just couldn't get to sleep that night because it was so hot so I took my teeshirt and panties and I guessed I'd kicked off the covers. She calmed down and just told me to get some clothes on and get moving. I don't know what my dad thinks about what I wear to bed or if he cared if I went around the house in underwear like my brothers do. But, TBH, I suspect he would be like Mom and want me to wear stuff. It really IS a double standard. But, that's really the only thing they don't know about me, I think. I think we're a lot better off (the family) than a lot of people so I can't complain.

I didn't want to answer for two reasons - one, I wanted to hear what other PARENTS think since I know what mine think (and I'm not a parent) - and two, I didn't want to influence this. Maybe I should've done a second one for the kids.

But I tried to get all the extremes in (that's why some of the answers are, TBH, kind of ridiculous). But, my opinion now (and I see no reason why I would be likely to change when I become a mom) is that I know that I am much more comfortable now with nothing most of the time, but some people (like @themajesticking777) are more comfortable wearing something. SO... in my opinion, I would allow my kids to wear (or not wear) what they want to keep them comfortable. So... "B."

Yeah that's pretty much exactly my line of thinking. The only caveat I might add was I would request that they sleep with their door closed and make sure they have something on before leaving their rooms

@godsvengeance I think (and I COULD be wrong - maybe that's why I asked the question) that most parents do NOT want their kids walking around naked OR wearing nothing to bed. I would be happy if it was OK for me to be naked in my room. I do it, but my parents don't know because at least they do knock first. But as comfortable as I am wearing nothing, I get it that my parents are conservative. Plus I'm the only girl so I get that. But, maybe if they knew that my brothers and I have been skinny dipping for years and there are never any problems, maybe they would change their minds.

So, given what *I* know from skinny dipping, I think I would let my kids decide if they wanted to be naked in their rooms or out (I mean, as long as we didn't have visitors), but certainly in their rooms. Now I just have to find a husband who thinks the same way (which may be VERY difficult where I live). But maybe things will be different when I get to that time in my life.
