My grandma, who passed away recently due to colon cancer, voted for trump. She also didn't know if the confederacy was good or bad?

I loved my grandma, it's the only grandma I got to know as my other one died before I was born. But, honest to god, if I could have, I would have smacked some sense in to her. Not only did she vote for Trump because she's a "republican", she didn't even know that the confederacy were the bad guys. I just don't understand that.

My dad once had to basically tell her that my mom and dad were going to raise me Jewish, and that she was going to have to be ok with that. At first she wasn't happy but she knew that she would have to accept it.

I just don't get people like my grandma. Do they just not understand basic decency and corruption?

My dad is an agnostic.

It's about perception and views. Everyone has different opinions. Your grandma lived in a different time than you, her opinions were shaped by her upbringing and all the experiences she had in her life. Just like your opinions are based on your upbringing and all the experiences you had until now. You can't make everyone understand why your opinion is right and theirs is wrong. Because it's a matter of opinion. What you consider as a fact, others might think of it as a lie or propaganda. The proof is what you believe. If God himself appeared in front of an atheist to prove his existence and the atheist doesn't want to acknowledge it, he will say that it's an illusion or hallucination. But someone who believes in God will take even blowing wind as a proof of his existence. All you can do is believe in your own views and move forward!
