Is it too intimate to bake a cake for guy friend?

recently I moved back to Australia after working overseas for a long time. I reached out to my best guy friend back from school to try to reconnect. I will be seeing him a week, and it's close to his birthday. Is it weird and too intimate if I bake him a mini cake as a birthday present? I don't know his current relationship status and don't want to overstep any boundaries. Basically I just wanted him to know that I remember his birthday and make a friendly gesture.

If he is single it's a totally okay thing to do as a friend. If he is in a relationship it's a big no no, so do find out.
