Is it ever okay to ghost a close or best friend?

Is it ever okay to ghost someone who was your best friend or very close to you? Or should you always have a conversation with them when you want to end the friendship?

Depending on the friendship it's probably best to answer their messages, and just say that you've been busy.
Keep contact but basically scale it back and don't hang out as much.
Ghosting and burning bridges isn't really a good practice unless it's absolutely necessary in my opinion.
