Do parents treat their sons differently when it comes to independance, compared to their daughters? What is your experience as a man?

My male friend went to a different city for work, he lost his job the last months, and now he can't pay rent, has no electricity or water anymore, is depressed.
He has his parents in another city.
I just cannot understand why his parents cannot help him financially, or why is he simply not coming back to his parents house.
I am sure no parent would feel like their child is a burden, no matter how old he or she is.
As a woman, my parents never let me struggle, sure they encourage me to be independent, but they wouldn't let me struggle. They always pay for most of my stuff eventhough I am in my early twenties, still studying tho.
Is it not the same for boys-men?

Yes in my experience it is true that sons get treated differently. So growing up I was allowed a lot more latitude when it came to going places, hangout out with friends and curfews and things like that. Now please consider that my sister and I were adopted by our biological grand parents and they were more old school when came to the gender things. So as boy I was expected to be more independent and if I got myself in to trouble I could A. Fight my way out of it with my own two fists, or B. suffer the consequences and learn from the experience and not fuck it up again.

So growing up I got way with a lot more things than my sister ever did... but on the some token I tried to do more things, and I had my own jobs from the age of 14 on that allowed me to earn my own money and go out and do more things. Where as my sister never worked or had a job until she was 22 years old. By 20I had bought my first three cars with my own money, mostly because I wrecked the first 2 being a dumbass teenager... but my sister got to drive my parents cars and didn't have to buy her first car until she was 26 and even then dad and mom co-signed on her loan and then gave her gas money monthly to cover some costs for her.

Once I turned 18 I was expected to be self supporting and out of the house by 20, and my sister lived at home until she was 24, then still got money from mom and dad into her 30 years. I never got a dime from mom dad after I graduated highschool at 18.

So yes I got a lot of latitude in doing things, but I was expected to pay for all of it myself or not do it... she got pampered into her 30 years until she got married at 34. She resented me for all the things I got to do that she never had a chance to do, but honestly we were two very different type of teenagers with completely different interests.

From my experience growing up and friends of mine who have kids it seems as girl's seem to be closer to their father (daddy's little princess) and boy's are more close to their mother but I'm just stating what I have observed but may not always be the case

Lol, meanwhile here I am not only getting zero support from parents, but actually having paid my parents financial support.

You must've lived quite a cushy life. That's lucky.

I think your experience is typical of upper class and probably very Western families. That experience is more typical of male children in most of my cultural circles. Little Prince syndrome and all.

That also has to do with finances. Maybe his parents just can't afford to help him out.
