Why do I keep dreaming about our family dog?

This is the 3rd time (on different occasions), I've dreamt about the dog my parents had when I was a baby. It was a female, grey Pitbull and she died of cancer when I was 4.

Now I remember her a bit. In my dream, she's at a park, being walked by an unknown young guy. As soon as both see me, the guy says that she wants to go with me instead. Then she breaks free from the leash and runs towards me, wagging her tail. She rubs her body and cuddles me (the same thing she did when I was a toddler) for what seemed like forever until my alarm rang and I woke up.

Why have I been dreaming about our family dog? What does this mean? Any ideas?

After dreaming of her, I felt I do remember her. It felt so real, as if I was really with her.

Interesting. Thanks. It took me years to remember her. My parents had to tell me about her. Then with those dreams, it's helping me remember her.

More likely. My mother and a couple relatives believe in the paranormal. They think that was her visiting me, that she'll always be watching over me.
The thing is I didn't remember her for so long until recently. Now I'm regaining parts of my memories of her back. My parents told me I was the last person to see her alive and the only one that witnessed her death, she came walking to me and died in my arms. Then I started screaming and crying so much. I somehow blocked that memory and then didn't remember her for so long.

yes there was and we were there laying down

The ironic part is my parents told me I actually cried a lot when she died. I had apparently blocked out the memory of me being the last person seeing her alive. Apparently she walked towards me and died in my arms. Then my parents told me I run around screaming that she's dead.

Then I didn't remember her for years till recently.

I think it's that sad event (her death) that made me forget about her for a long while that my mind repressed it.
