How do you feel about the relationship with your mother? How do you feel about the relationship with your father?

Question

I believe me and my mother have a good relationship since she raised and took care of me 99.9% of the time during my upbringing and me and her even though we fight on the occasion we are still very close to the point I want my mother to live with me when she gets older to be closer to me and her grandchild.

The relationship between me and my father is complicated in a way. Me and my father are not really close and sometimes it feels as we are strangers. He has a temper so any little thing easily set him off. I was never really a "daddy's girl" growing up and really don't have many fond memories of my dad like I do with my mother. He was always away on business, constantly working (my father is a workaholic who prefer work over home), or with friends at the bar. I wish my father was involved more in my life like my mother.

My mom wanted the best for us. I didn’t see it that way as a kid. By the time I was getting ready to go to school there were only three of us left. My mom spent the majority of her money to send one brother and me to a private school where there were no drugs or fights…but the principal was physically abusive towards me for 6 years. I didn’t hate my mom but I resented her because I thought she was okay with it. One day she found out how bad it was and she took me out of the school that day and she confronted the school. That day our relationship started to heal. She became my good friend and still is to this day.

I didn’t meet my dad until I was 19. Long story. He accepted me, his family accepted me with a warmth that I never knew. My dad was mentally ill from decades of alcoholism. We bonded as much as we could. He was a man with a good heart that was struggling with the consequences of his mistakes born out of a destitute childhood. He was a good man. He is passed 4 years ago.

we don’t get to choose our parents. Were they perfect? Absolutely not. Did they truly love me and try to do their best, even though they made mistakes?
Yes.

I’m happy with the parents I have.

My father died in 2007. In the last 25 years of his life, I lost most of my respect for him. I didn't hate him and I accepted him as a very deeply flawed human being. I never cried when he died.

My mother is 91 years old. Her perspective is limited because she grew up in a cabin that had no indoor plumbing or electricity, she got married at age 17, and her intellectual level is average at best. But I know that she has made her best effort to be a good mother and I love her for that.

My mom and I are doing okay now, but our relationship really slowly started to develop in my later teens, bevor that we didn't really had one and I was more the parental figure and I honestly also still have some anger towards her

My father was an abusive asshole, we didn't had any relationship and he was thankfully out of my life when I was 6 and died last year, may his soul suffer for eternity for the shit he had done to us

My ex stepfather is an egotistical asshole and we also never had a relationship and I really despise him

I lost my father in 2019 Sept 22.. it's almost 3 years. My whole life my Dad was the person taking care of everything. In 2010 he taught my Mom everything ( how to pay Bills, banking etc). Before he passed she would take him to the hospital.. and do EVERYTHING FOR HIM. It's like she gained the energy of 10 people. When he passed it was like she forgot everything. Till this day I know he was sick and he even apologized for her having to deal with him. My mom is my rock and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her.

I don't have a relationship with my father. I cut him out of my life years ago, and it was the right decision.

My relationship with my mother is tolerable. We've had our rough patches, but we're ok, now.
