Is my brother now screwed?

His girlfriend cheated on him once 3 years ago and he tried working it out. Supposedly she's all remorseful and has learned, hasn't cheated again, etc.

She got pregnant last year and shortly after the baby girl was born, he obviously needed take a paternity test. It's positive. He is the father. Is he now screwed?

He was hoping it would come out negative so that way he can throw the ''I knew it, cheaters never changed, I knew it, I knew'' instead it's positive.

He even went ahead to do a 2nd paternity test. It didn't change the result. It's positive. He is the father.

Screwed? No. Kids are hard work, but they're awesome. I'm more concerned that your brother was hoping the test would come out negative. That indicates to me that there is way more fundamentally wrong in the foundations of this relationship than just the baby. They need to arrange for counseling so they figure this out before the baby is born. Kids need stability and not what your brother was displaying by doubting his girlfriend.

Their baby daughter is already 5 months old. But yes I do agree counseling is needed. He has taken responsibility but yeah it's hard work.

He is legally responsible for helping to support his child until she reaches age 18. He is morally responsible for more.

It means he's fucked up. Instead of enjoying a single life away from responsibilities and walk away from that woman easily, now he can't.
Before taking the paternity test twice, he was wishing it would be negative so he can then ditch her for good and threw the ''''I knew it, cheaters never changed, I knew it, I knew'' in her face but now he can't. Both came out positive. That's what I meant when I said he's screwed.

As is true of most people in most situations, he screwed himself. It was 100% avoidable and he could have changed the outcome. Hopefully, he learns enormous lessons from this very costly experiencea and perhaps even learns to enjoy being a father.

Yes he's taking responsibility and wants to be the best father for their 5 month-old daughter. He enjoys making the baby laugh but yes admitted it's hard work.

My brother went through something similar though his wife cheated on him after their children were born. Like three times and he took her back every single time as she had said that she had to get it out of her system.

He wanted to work it out and according to him, she was trying hard to get his trust back. He believed in second chances.
I don't. If someone cheats on me, I wouldn't take them back... much less get myself impregnant by that loser.

He didn't realize he was going to have triggers. His trigger began when she was pregnant. But he really is the father so he had nothing else to say but apologize. He wants to continue working it out though. Oh well... his problem I guess.
