If you adopted, fostered, how did it go and would you do it again?

We talked about adopting. I like the idea of sharing our success with others and giving back, it's the stage of life we are in, and we are successful within the whole family unit. As well, I recognize the risk... it's a lot of work to raise kids especially when they start out on the wrong foot as so much development occurs 0-7yrs. It's a risk to the relationship if it doesn't work, selecting the right "fit" matters.

If my one ex in China, the one ripped away from me because of politics over there, suffered some tragedy that left her a widow, I'd definitely take her back, and adopt the little girl. As it stands, in frustration with the system trying everything to keep us apart, she settled for a local man. I trust him. As long as he's still in the picture, I'm content to leave them be. They're a beautiful family now, and I don't want to do anything to ruin that. But if she lost him, I'd definitely be eager to take his place, if neither her nor I found anyone else before that. Until / unless that happens, she's got her hands full, and I still have the right to look elsewhere. Her and I no longer owe each other anything, though I still have a lot of respect for her. She's a packaged deal though. So if I did end up being her backup, I am aware that I'd have to adopt the kid as well. For her, that would be a bonus, not a drawback.

For anyone else, I'd be slightly less motivated. Maybe once my car is paid off, and I have a better job, I can look into adopting. I'd have to get my own place though. But I'd like to be a dad one way or another.

That might be the only way. The fish aren't biting, if you catch my drift.

I think people approach the adoption process willy-nilly. People need to stop pretending when it comes to adopting children outside of their culture (I am confused about your references to race here). Anyway, children are owed a community where there is a group identity that accepts them as one of their own. People need to stop pretending that "just love" can give a child a group identity.

I started out with a different question and changed it as I had though about adopting outside of race/culture. that's what I'm curious about, how the child absorbs it. may be unique to each kid... I didn't follow my friends who adopted outside of their culture closely to know hwo it worked out.

I thought about adopting but it's only in case I don't have biological children. Since I'm already 30 years I might not be in time to have kids "of my own".

I would only adopt black children. This is not because I believe that children of other races don't deserve to be adopted. It's only because black children are the least adopted, I'm black and it would easier to raise a black girl or boy.

I used to think about adopting, but the system makes it too difficult. I wouldn't mind different races

I know multiple people who have in the USA, but that was decade ago. one was single mother.

Would not bother me at all. I would be willing to adopt my friend's kids if God forbid something happened to her and her husband. Their children are melanin-enhanced and I am melanin-challenged. We are all one blood.

My husband and I did adopt. Our daughter is a wonderful gift who we wouldn’t have had without the blessing of adoption.

I raised 3 kids and I don't want any more.
