Do narcissists really believe their own delusions and lies?

I'm not even mad at my ex boyfriend anymore. What I'm about to post is actually worth laughing.

I had a stomach surgery in March 2019 to remove a benign tumor. My parents and I were fighting this ongoing battle (my platelets were elevated and my blood count was low) that was affecting my health and daily routine. I was bleeding somewhere and it took 4-5 years for another doctor to finally discover it.

My parents and I have been paying and looking for doctors like crazy. My parents and I paid for the surgery. The doctor and nurses did their job.

My narcissistic ex boyfriend claim taking all the credits to himself saying that he ''saved my life'' because he told me to eat all types of food and that he prayed to god that I get better. He kept saying I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for him. All of the sudden he was the perfect guy and I owe him my life. Yet, he never searched for doctors, never called my parents and never contributed to paying any of my medical bills nor helped with my stomach surgery. LOL

Seriously, now I'm really laughing. Do narcissists really believe their own world, their own lies?

He didn't give any credits to my parents and I actually searching for doctors, my father had to contact a couple of his friends who are doctors, didn't give any credits to the doctor who did the surgery nor the nurses. He only gave credits to himself, god and his praying.
He had money for other things (he paid for himself, for his good clothes, good shoes, etc) but not a dime for my health, my life.

Thank you and yes I'm doing a lot better now. I just think the part about him saving my life because of a prayer to god and him suggesting I eat all types of foods is laughable by now.
He discredited the surgeons and nurses and placed all the credit to god and his prayings. I think that's someone super delusional.

My mother obviously send him to hell over the phone and he also tried to tell her that ''But thanks to me I've saved your daughter's life (in such a tone of voice that he really believed it), she got better because of me''. My mother got pissed off and called him out on the BS, told him he never did anything for me at all but waste my time, he didn't put any money on my surgery.

There's no telling. I was married to one and I have no idea if she's believed her lies or not. She's it matter what they believe? You can't trust anything they say.

It's just that I'm laughing right now, about the part of him thinking he really ''saved my life''. He really believed I owe him my life. Nope, I owe my life to my loving, worrying parents, the surgeon and the nurses.

Yeah I owe him nothing. I've blocked him on all my pages and he'll never be welcome in my family. I've found better and have been in my relationship for 10 months now.
Honestly, if my current boyfriend was doing so bad in his health that his life depended on a surgery, I would help out with some money. That's what a normal, caring and loving partner does.

Only for a bit until I snapped out of it when he scammed me with my own money. Then I've realized they are twisted individuals that really believed their own lies. Wow.
I'm just now laughing. It's worth laughing at this point.
