Is getting an ear piercing for a baby girl really that painful?

Here are two baby girls getting their ears pierced. Meanwhile one cries badly afterwards, another one is laughing for some reason. Assuming they numb the ears, is it really that painful? My older cousin is getting her 5 month-old daughter ear piercing. She wants to make her feel as comfortable as possible.

It would be great if she reacted like the 2nd baby, happy and laughing but depends on pain tolerance I guess.

Mine never hurt. Being pinned still is probably what is upsetting. Who knows what it feels like for a baby though.

Since most baby girls are crying and very few giggling/laughing like on the 2nd video, I'm going to assume it must still hurt or that device is too noisy.

My parents got my ears pierced as a baby too. My dad had no problems (still doesn't) with that.
