What's your opinion on father daughter dances? Why or why not?

For some that do not know, it's an event that's held in schools for father's and daughters to not only have a special dinner but for father's to dance with their daughters. It's to show the girls how they should be treated when they're older and in a relationship similar to daddy daughter dates. The fathers will clean up really nice even shave if they wanted to and the little girls typically will wear dresses, have their hair, nails, and make-up done. The father will not only give his daughter flowers but the event will give a rose to the father for him to give to his daughter.

Do you find them insensitive especially to girls that do not have their fathers in their lives or no? If you had a daughter would you take her or not really?

Growing up I was unable to go to father daughter dances cause my dad was not only away, he really didn't care to even take me, and sometimes I was a little jealous when my friends were able to go. Even if they didn't have their biological dad take them some would have their step dads, uncles, older brothers, their mom's boyfriends, or even their grandfathers.

It sounds like a nice event, but the organizers should make some provision for the girls that don't have a father or someone else to accompany them. Perhaps a male teacher or another trusted male.

I wanted to take my karate instructor who was like a father figure to me, but the school said no unfortunately. But were okay with some of the other girls'mom's boyfriends being there

My husband really enjoyed taking our daughter to all the father daughter dances. It never really occurred to me to think about the girls who may not have had access to their father to go to the dance, we always just took some joy in the fact that she wanted him to go :-). We are fortunate to not have to navigate the complicated territory of paternal figures and their roles.

Father Daughter dances create special memories. We had an annual one and my dad made it once. The other years I would tag along with a friend and her dad was both our dates.

My daughters also attended father daughter dances with my husband. Dressing up and going to a fancy dance with other girls and Daddy made magical memories.

I have a daughter and, yes, I would take her. Will? If she wants to go.

I do struggle with a couple things. First, it's 2023. What if that girl has been raised by two moms? Or, your great example. So, that needs to be worked out.

Not here, but I'll buy you a croissant and coffee sometime and share my thoughts on the other minefields that are worth discussing about daddy daughter dances.

But, in a very general sense, I'm okay with them.

so I’ve always been a softy when it came to father daughter stuff and have honestly been terrified that one day I will have a daughter who will fall for a guy like me… Anyways. Haha! This song has always been a tear jerker for me.

It's something I've never quite understood. Why is it important to do that. I feel like there should also be a father son dance, and a mother daughter dance etc.
If someone wants to do it, they should of course do it. A lot of girls don't have a good relationship with their dad and are forced to do the dance.

Some of us don't have daughters to take to any dances we don't even have children in our lives at all. Society has ruined any chances of that happening and I am speaking on men's behalf not just my own which was the main reason I wanted to move out of this country to Russia.
