Its my first time meeting him, what are some tips to be not awkward?

So I’ve only been talking to this guy for a week and we’re going out. It’s not a romantic date just a regular friend thing. I hope he doesn’t make a move cause I don’t see him in that way lol. He’s also mutual friends with some of mine, yet I’ve never met him before. But I’ve been assured that he’s a great guy and not creepy.

I don’t usually go out with guys I’ve never met alone, so I fear I’m a bit awkward. We speak well over text tho but I know irl is different. I also find my social skills to be lacking ever since COVID, since I still haven’t been out meeting people as I used to. So any tips will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You have to remember how you talk with him through text, thats the way your comfortable with. So just think about it int he same way. He is the same guy you talk to. You need to stay calm, stay relaxed and maybe bring up a topic yiu had previously brought up. Like "oh hey remember that funny video you shared that is still hilarious". So talk about things you usually talk about, that will help break the ice. And you both can start a flowing conversation.

o Don't pre-judge your experience.
o Ask yourself, your motive is for hanging out
o Make clear in arranging it what your looking forward to (aka make it about the event, not the person, unless your motive shows your interest)

In length:

So, to avoid it getting awkward, figure out why your there. The average person doesn't arrange to hang out with another single person unless there is some kind of activity happening. If there isn't a pre-set activity and its a guy girl dynamic, its near impossible not to be a date (excepting old school friends or friends family with some need to talk over something maybe only a neutral girl would understand).

So, if your serious about not seeing him that way (and for reference. in my experience, girls often say what you did in your description when they mean really they aren't planning to see the guy in that way or they feel their not the hottest guy, or whom they typically go for, which is very different from no interest or it not being a date); Then you need to figure why your going and pre-confirm that's why their going (being clear your reasons are the activity and that your fine for him to come too).

If, as I would by default suspect, you really don't know how your going to feel about the dude, but he's got you curious enough to see if he's maybe worth your time, then your best way to not feel too awkward is keep it light and joke around a lot. Don't let anything get serious. If you look at it "as a bit of a laugh" not taking anything to heart and say up front your looking forward to just having a laugh and doing X activity. Will keep it from being awkward and if after what you recall is him enabling that to happen, then maybe there's some spark available for you both.
