my dad stays with me and he is perfectly able bodied. He is only 50 so it’s not like he needs help. I love him to death and I’m not the type who will sugarcoat things. If I love you I don’t want you to go outside smelling weird. So if his breath stinks I will say “hey your breath stinks. Go brush your teeth.” I would want someone to do the same for me. The problem is I already told him that the house smells like feet when I get home and to take a shower. He doesn’t fully take a shower he just washes his feet but I’m the type of person that I have a sensitive nose so I need to be smelling good smells all day. I even bought him some expensive cologne and body wash but he doesn’t use it as often as I would like him to. If he used it every day it would be gone by now but it’s been about 3 months and the bottles are still almost full. The thing is I leave before he wakes up in order to go to work and I suppose he isn’t showering. if I don’t have work I see him get up and go into the bathroom to take a shower. I just don’t know if he is showering when I leave because sometimes he smells bad. He doesn’t get to the point of smelling putrid but he probably skips two days between showering. So how do you politely tell a family member that they need to shower way more often.

If you're showing properly then two days between showers is perfectly fine, assuming you're not working out or working with messy stuff.
If he's not showering properly ie only washing his feet then you need to have that conversation. Which may be easier? I dunno, that's a tricky one.

Plug your nose and wave your hands in front of your face. Saying something like “Whoo! Did a cat die in here or do you need a shower?”
He’s fifty. He could have problems with stability. I guess find out if he needs something like a shower chair.
Why does your dad stay with you if he has capability to not?
