Has anyone found out a friend of theirs died and were completely unaware of it?

Just found out a friend of mine for the last couple of years died from liver failure. Hadn't heard from him in a bit and just found out he died today. Bothered me a lot to hear it.

shit, this just happened to me. My best friend moved away 4 years ago, We never even got to say goodbye because of covid. We were supposed to have dinner sometime and then I find out that he moved. We used to email each other. I heard from him last April, Before he moved he was treated for colon cancer but he told me he was okay. I did not hear from him at Christmas which was unusual. I sent him an email and never heard back. He had been divorced 3 times and was on wife number 4. I wondered if he was divorced again. I went on the internet to see if i could find out if he still lived in the same place or something else., I saw an obit for him. I think the cancer came back. He died in November. None of his sisters even bothered to let me know. I am sad and confused. I had planned on driving to Florida in the spring and wanted to stop on the way down and see him.

There’a a boy who kllled himself like two days after my friend over dozed on drugs and died. I feel like he did it that same week she died so all the attention wouldn’t be on him. I don’t k ow if this is rekevant but I feel that pain
