Should parents be obligated if a child is adopted to tell them?

I am adopted and I knew it. The knowledge is not as helpful as you think. While I had fantastic parents that helped me become the man I am today knowing that I was adopted has always left a perpetual hole of feeling alone and wanting to fill that with a family. My wife is amazingly supportive and has done her absolute best to ensure I don't ever feel alone even with that I still have times when things are really bad. Every October right before Halloween I have a very hard time for about a week because that is when I entered the foster care system. I tried looking for my birth parents because I wanted to know... why wasn't I enough? What did I do wrong? Why didn't they want me? Etc.

While I am over all of that I never did get those questions were never answered and the result of knowing I am adopted and what I went through I have a dulled and vibrant emotional response across the board. Some ways it manifests. I let very few people into my life. A decent thing since that approach has made me a lot of money. I don't cry at funerals even those of people I love. My grandmother passed away a few years ago I went... I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be sad. Everyone was crying. Every so often a hear a song or watch a scene from a movie or see my children do something so adorable it all drops. Quite annoying when that happens. I don't get angry... anymore used to a lot when I was younger sadistically angry. I have little regard for peoples feelings, I have remorse... that I can entirely ignore. I love very deeply and very purely which is good.

I can't read body language but I can read facial expressions to the point I can carry out a full conversation without ever saying anything. Then when I say it the conversation repeats exactly the same way. I am exceedingly protective of the ones I love not a bad thing. When it comes to violence I prefer to avoid it (promise I made myself 21 years 7 months 13 days ago) however if needed I have absolutely no compunction about the level of violence I use. I have an extremely rigid moral code. I don't tolerate bullshit, I find conversing with people can be quite tiring I still do it because it is something I need to not stop. I make a decent role model because of my rigid moral code and character but I get 2 types of people. People that love me or people that hate me. End of the day being adopted no matter how good it is leaves a void that can never truly be filled. So to answer your question absolutely not I don't think parents should be obligated to reveal that it isn't necessarily a good thing

Before a family history has to be given for medicals. Diabetes, high blood pressure, etc can be genetic and knowing your obese arthritic parents aren't genetically linked can be useful for predicting if that chest pain is a heart attack or indigestion...

I think the child should know, but I understand why the parents would be scared to tell them. I read in a book the best age to tell a child they are adopted is age 5.

They absolutely should tell a child they're adopted. Here where I live they are legally obligated to inform a child before they turn seven.

I won’t say ‘should’ but ill say it might be good to tell them at some point. Ill say preteen ages 12-14 so they’re a little more developed cognitively to process it.

Best to tell them for a variety of reasons, including family medical history.
