What if a baby doesn't cry at birth, is that always bad?

Whenever my mother tells my story, she said I really scared the hell out of her. Even though I was breathing, not hearing me cry was a concern.

I was stimulated and immediately started crying. Then she got happy, relief to see I was fine. Is it always bad if a baby doesn't cry at birth? Apparently I was a peaceful baby and fell asleep.

i don't know the procedure of childbirth, but as long as the baby is connected via umbilical it's getting oxygen. it's when babies have the airholes cleared and they don't cry it's a problem. they clip the cord and start emergency procedures.

if you've never watched a whale birth it's similar. the mother has to guide the baby to a new way of breathing and that baby has to learn quickly. the whale doesn't have doctors and nurses to help, which is why live birthing underwater can be popular because it simulates that prehistoric birth.

No, but if something WAS wrong, the baby wouldn't cry, and they want to make sure that's not the case.

True. Though I was breathing normal. It was just that I deep in my sleep, peacefully but my mom and doctors get worried right away.

If the umbilical cord is not cut, a newborn does not need to cry. Making the child cry is the way to force them to take a breath.
