I've heard of some parents even bragging about it, feeling great about that. Good to whom? Obviously to the one applying it but not to the receiver. The receiver definitely isn't going to feel good about it at all.
Bragging about something that makes the child cry in pain or scared sounds selfish to me. It's all about you and how you feel, your feelings, you... you, not them.

If you're going to do it, at least don't brag about it. Not only is it lacking compassion but you're actually enjoying it. I find that weird.

Because they think it makes them a good parent when their child is terrified of them and literally beat them into submission. They brag because they are getting called out in media, who now support just talking and supporting your child when they make mistakes, and it bothers them so they get louder and defend their positions.
and then the cycle repeats itself as the child then grows up thinking he/she deserved all that. Do they even know how ridiculous it sounds if it were an adult claiming to deserved getting whipped by their boss or someone else ''Oh my boss would always slap me if I would come late to work, but hey I deserved it all''.
Of course it's ridiculous but it doesn't stop them from doing it. They don't think so though. They love to play the bully and think their parenting style is best
That sounds like abuse
Indeed it is. How can anyone feel great about making their child fearful and scared?
They are copying what they saw as a kid.
It's a terrible cycle indeed until one person decides not to repeat it.
