I'm curious about the different reactions among people. There is a woman on gag (this forum) that was raised with a religion and spanked as a little kid. She's very outspoken about her hatred towards corporal punishment on kids and is an atheist. She turned against her upbringing.
Someone else can be raised just like that woman was but unlike her, they can continue the family tradition and raise their own kids the same way they were.
Even if raised under similar circumstances, what makes others copy the same thing and others acquire different thoughts and values?

They learn to question things and think outside the box and not oppress their way of thinking. This allows someone to see behind facades when they are able to view things from many points of views. You cannot limit yourself and your mind to one way of thinking. I also studied religions in my anthropology classes. However, I limit myself from changing people beliefs because religion serves a purpose of hope and hope is a beautiful thing someone can have especially if they are going through tough things in life, religions are meant to give hope. I wouldn’t want to take that away from someone, so I just keep my knowledge to myself.
I also wanted to add, the fact that you are questioning and being curious is actually prohibited in many religions. You would understand why that is, I’m sure you know, because once you understand there really is no going back. So you can either be open minded, but this might lead you to something that you don’t want to encounter if you dig too deep and it will be truly depressing or you can stop asking questions and keep your faith.
That's a great stance. This leads me to think some people are natural free thinkers and aren't satisfied with just one teaching and probably don't like getting tell to just shut up and listen.
Others are so close-minded and only stick to just one teaching. It's so easy to just copy everything you were taught and harder to question it all, disagree on things that don't make sense and develop your own concept.
@Danielle93 It needs a good brain to think about it which is not so common.
Absolutely, because there’s often a significant divide in how people approach their beliefs and knowledge. Free thinkers often thrive on exploration and critical questioning, which can lead to a deeper understanding of complex issues. They might feel stifled when faced with dogmatic teachings or when they're told to simply accept things without question.
good one.
Sometimes values and beliefs are drummed into kids so hard they can't shake them as adults and carry the fear of not conforming all their lives. We are the product of our formative years.
But sometimes we're exposed to people who don't share our families opinions and they can influence how we see the world. Eg this person never goes to church but he's still a good person
its about high confident parents and low confident parents.
I could see that. It's very likely that woman's parents were low confident parents with unbearable flaws.
@Danielle93 i am sure, i just followed you.
Thank you
@Danielle93 expecting you too.
