Did/do any of you have a neighbor that's in law enforcement? What was it like living next door or close to them?

Growing up, we were pretty much surrounded by county cops. Looking back, I really don't remember having an interaction with any of them, they seemed to keep to themselves. They weren't friends of ours but definitely weren't enemies. Do any of you have experiences living next to someone in law enforcement?

We had a Florida State trooper that was a neighbor when I was growing up. He was a family friend and very nice.. however, one day he came over, in his police car and uniform, and was talking to my dad about my oldest brother. Long story short, apparently my brother threw a beer can at his daughter's car. It's a long story but my dad was pissed, because he came over in his police car. My dad asked why he didn't just come over and discuss it as "neighbors". The relationship didn't turn toxic but it was never the same after that and it's unfortunate, because we were all good friends.

Yeah, I think your neighbor was kind of in the wrong. If it was that big of an issue, he should have recused himself and had someone else talk to your dad.

It wasn't a big deal. There wasn't even damage done, just a father protecting his daughter, I guess.

Almost everybody we know is either an engineer, a doctor, or a finance guy, at least those in our social circle. I do not know what jobs they do, except for maybe a small group of them.

You asked if we had any who lived near us that were cops and my response was, I am not aware of any police officers in my area but I also know very few job designations of those who live near me.

No, you didn't! You talked about people in your "social circle." Your social circle isn't the same as your "neighbors." Then you said, "I don't know what jobs they do, except for maybe a small group of them". WTF does that even mean?

My direct neighbour is a cop. He's a pretty chill guy and we're good buddies. We go snowmobiling and dirt biking together all the time. He's a much better neighbour than the trailer trash that live on my left.

It's really no different living next to him and his family than it is any other.

If I didn't interact with him I'd have no way of even knowing he's a cop. He doesn't walk about in uniform nor bring his patrol car around the house. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if most people in the neighbourhood had no clue about his employment.

YES! The only way I knew we had so many cop neighbors, was when I would ride my bike around the neighborhood or would walk to a friend's house and see the cops either leaving in their uniforms or coming home in them.

My aunt and my dad's cousin were both cops but, we didn't live next door to either of them.

Looking back, I'm starting to think our cop neighbors may have distanced themselves because of their job.

My aunt was nearly always at our house in the summer and a number of times in the winter and Chuck was at the house every so often, but not incredibly often. Dad got pissed at him, one day, for throwing a lawn chair into the pool.

I had two cops that lived on my street. I was friends with both of them. They were not cops in my town so they were basically civilians.

Never experienced that. I don't know anyone in law enforcement

Just regular people. Good fences make good neighbours and we all look out for each other.

I had an officer living 2 doors down the road. He wasn't any different then the other neighbors.
