Make-up & Beauty Products: You Thought They Were Your Friends?

For all the girls out there who like using make-up and beauty products with renowed brand names, did you know that MAC, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Revlon, Stila, Cover girl, Estee Lauder contained chemicals like parabens, aluminium salts and acrylamide or petroleum distillates that could be giving you the so much feared cancer ?

While you think that these makeups will make you look younger in fact it may only kill you earlier than you expected.

Your favourite MAC lipstick contains class 3 carcinogens like the Red 33 lake, in fact if you use a lipstick containing an ingredient with a number and "lake" after it then you should rethink about using it.

Cadmium, a heavy metal, was found in several Estee Lauder, Jafra Cosmetics, l'Oreal, Yves Rocher, Revlon, Proctor and Gamble, Mary Kay, and Jane & Co products including powder eye shadows, cream eye shadows, eye primers, and foundations.

Toluene, paint-thinner found in several nail products and hair dyes have been found to cause damage to nervous system and may even lead to neurological disorders such as dementia.

Benzophenones which are found in lip balms, foundation, nail polish, fragrances, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, and baby sunscreens may cause allergic reactions like skin rashes and anaphylactic shock( an extreme, often life-threatening allergic reaction to an antigen to which the body has become hypersensitive.)

Lead as you all know is another heathy metal: present in a great number of makeup products, especially those with more pigment such as foundation, eye shadow, lipstick, and eyeliner. It is highly toxic when it entered the bloodstream and was found to cause neurological disorders, but also infertility and cancer. Lead is most commonly found in lip products including lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip liners. It is also found in hair dyes, mascaras, eyeshadows, blushes, and foundations. In the FDA lab study, lead was found in measurable or trace amounts in every product tested except for baby powder and most lotions.

Talc, a mineral which i'm sure all girls have used in powder makeup be it foundation(including liquid foundation) or blush. The mineral was found to be often contaminated with asbestos which is a known carcinogen. There has been a large number of studies linking talc powder to ovarian cancer according to a review published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention.

this make me think about checking my makeup I trash a bb cream, 2 foundations, 1 lipstick, and a concealer for the ingredients and for not being able to find the ingredients I decide not to take the risk and toss it.

Ooookay, let's hold back a bit on this, because a Huffpost post RARELY is a reliable source of information.

FIRST OF ALL: You need to know that you live SURROUNDED by cancer. And there are things that will make your chances of getting it raise WAY more than any beauty products. Like say, the sun, the air, the microwave, secondhand smoke, the water and the BAZILLION agro-toxics present in your food. Like, please.

Second of all: The same above applies to lead. Lead occurs naturally, it's not like the world is lead-free and some demonic makeup products are here to change it. That's why the FDA exists, that's why the CPSC exists. Some ranges are normal, some ranges are safe, and if they're not they will take care of it.

Another thing: Benzophenones are a common allergen, but they're by no means more dangerous than peanuts. If you get skin rashes because of sunscreen then you're probably just allergic, go to your dermatologist to get a patch test and you're set to go. You could also get an anaphylactic shock, yes, if you eat like six spoons of sunscreen. I'm not sure people are into eating it.

And last but not least: You're probably going to die because of something else. You know what can be more dangerous than makeup? I don't know, an asshole driving at 150 mph without lights, drunk people driving, the food you're eating? Unprotected sex? You will likely die six times of any other thing before facial products cause you cancer all by themselves.

Ps: You could've said that a distorted need to be what everyone expects is not worth risking your life over, which is true, no one should feel pushed to wear makeup. But what do YOU know, I like makeup. I like applying it, I like to see my face and think "I'm so talented at this," I like seeing my face as the spitting reflections of the things I would only dream about. To see a vision materialized.

What do you know if I like natural or not? So I have to align myself and be "natural" instead of whatever the hell I want? Give me a break, we beat ourselves over EXISTING and you want to add another thing to the list? "You'll die because you want to look however you wish" And you know what? I WISH. It's better than reading about how we deserve to die violently just for walking by ourselves at night.

Processed food. Deodorant. Microwave. WiFi radiation (yup). Baby oil and powder. Pads and tampons. Screens. Livestock and poultry. Tell me what doesn't contain harmful stuff for the health/environment.

I would stop wearing makeup if you stop leading a network-free, processed food free, toxin substance free life. Because, let's face it, makeup is just as bad as other artificial stuff that we use daily.

I'm a science student and i probably know more than you about radiation so please don't come here to criticise when my topic was makeup and you are discussing radiation or food poisoning with me.

I'm a student of science as well. But I'm saying that makeup is not different from any other harmful substance that we use everyday. So while I get that we should try to use them as less as possible in life, I don't feel the need to make a fuss about one thing more than the other.

Yeah... this is the type of hysteria I kinda don't have the time nor energy for. Like a few others have already pointed out, we're already putting our health at risk just by walking outside and breathing in the not-so-fresh city air that pumps car fumes into our lungs. Makeup is merely a tiny drop in an overflowing ocean of issues we have going on in our society. I'm more likely to get lung cancer from smoke and fumes than I am to every experience noticeable damage from makeup. And I could get run over by a car today anyways.
Companies could do a better job at using safer chemicals for sure, but the amounts they put into makeup today is miniscule and hardly has any effect on anyone, unless you one day decide you want to eat all your 50 shades of MAC lipsticks in one go.

yes, i read about these things years ago and in addition to avoiding alcohol denat. (ethanol) i also avoid petroleum derivatives including mineral oil (paraffin), talc, benzophenones and parabens.
