What makes brands like Gucci so expensive?

I used to think that expensive name brands were a load of hooey.
I still do think that a lot of expensive goods are total overkill for the purposes for which most people will use such goods.
YETI brand products are my favorite to joke about.
My Coleman cooler purchased 45 years ago for $20 serves the exact same purpose as a brand new $250 YETI cooler.
The YETI owners dump out their un-melted ice at the end of an outing just like I do.
I don't foresee a grizzly bear molesting my Coleman cooler in my typical cooler using locales.
My cost per use for my Coleman cooler is probably down to about two or three cents per use.
I consider that to be a very good value.
Were I to be someone who was in need of the quality that YETI produces, I would gladly spring for their products.
I, and most people I know, do not have that need.
I see plenty of people using YETI products, though.
Good for YETI.
So, back to my changed opinion about some expensive brands.
Many years ago, I accompanied my wife at a Coach store.
I happened to be in need of a new wallet.
My previous wallets would last a year or so before they needed replacing.
I saw a man's wallet that suited my needs at the Coach store and decided to pop for it.
20 years later, my Coach wallet has deteriorated no further than conforming to the contours of my arse.
That Coach wallet is one the most cost effective purchases I've ever made.
I'm sure that it will be the last wallet I'll ever need.
Quality is expensive more often than not.
I'm not familiar with Gucci products.
They may be worth every penny to those who purchase their products.
Then again they may be merely a way of someone showing their affluence, with no real value being afforded to the purchaser.
Who am I to judge anyone's purchases?
Whether that quality and expense is worth it to someone is a matter of how that quality and expense impacts their life.
Is it worth it to the purchaser?
If so, go for it.
If not, pass it by.
Because they can get away with it. One of the biggest scams in human history is the fashion industry and branding. People will literally pay hundreds of times the markup in something JUST because it's a brand name, like Apple or Gucci or Louis Vitton. Most of the time, these products aren't even high quality. They just elevate their branding, and trick the foolish into buying them. They appeal to the Nouveau Gauche demographic; that is, stupid people with a lot of money. It's where the term "gaudy" comes from.
The reason people buy them is so they can trick others into thinking they're wealthy, even though intelligent wealth comes from wise investments and spending your money wisely. It's why people like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and even Simon Cowell (not that I'm a fan of any of these people) wear the same kind of clothing everyday and it's very simple clothing at that. They don't waste brainpower thinking about trivial and meaningless things like fashion.
In short, people are only paying for a name and nothing more. These products are not higher quality or worth the price tag, and people, especially women, waste their money on stuff like this every day. LITERALLY the entire fashion industry is built up on artificial value by tricking people into thinking useless garbage is worth owning. This is called trendiness and it means nothing.
In all honesty people buying the stuff. You can usually buy better quality for less. They just create an aura that convinces the customer it's something special. The real lazy companies in the "designer" con don't even design, they put a logo on a t-shirt and pass that off as designer. Designer clothes should include elements of thought and little details that make the clothes special, not some logo, indeed the really great or talented designers feel it's gauche to have a logo or label on display, the design should speak for itself.
Also remember companies like Gucci often don't make things themselves, their scents are made by third party contracted companies, most designer sunglasses are made by one Italian company that makes for most big brands, watches not Gucci for sure. It's not just Gucci, but that's the company you mentioned
It’s all about branding. The quality is good sure but not necessarily the best. After all top companies are usually owned by similar top buyers who produce the same stuff. Take for instance makeup brands I forgot which exact once’s now but a too expensive makeup brand being owned by the same person who owns a lower cost one. If it was an all sustainable brand perhaps quality may be the same as Gucci if they pay attention to these details but after a certain point even for good quality how much would it cost to produce a plain branded tee vs sell for $500
Basically they can get away with it

If something is expensive, people think it is better quality. And also if something is very expensive, that not everyone can afford it, than having one becomes a fashion statement and that makes other people want to buy that.
Basically, Gucci is expensive because they brand themselves as an expensive and luxurious brand. This is their strategy. They chose to sell low volumes at high prices instead of large volumes at small prices. And this gives them recognition.
I am sure that if you go in your closet and find that really cool dress that you got for only $20 or even less, and you tell us the brand, most of us wouldn't have heard of it. Even if it is actually very high quality and it looks awesome on you. And the fact is that if that same brand would also sell a $300 dress and you would wear that on the streets, nobody would even think that it could be that expensive.
This is what people buy: recognition that they have money (even though most of them don't). It's a never ending loop of flaws that makes this system work. It's the same reason Apple can sell phones that are so expensive.
As a note, you would never find a rich person dressed in designer labels that are extremely expensive, because those, I don't know if you knew, are the clothes of the poor. The clothes for the people that can barely afford to eat, but they want to show off. And, if you know where to look (second hand stores) you can find designer clothes for a fraction of the price. Sub 10 or 15 dollars per item. And this explains the previous statement...
A lot of things, but it's basically because those brands develop a reputation for being extremely high quality, and then ride with the benefits of that reputation. A lot of modern luxury companies became popular because they won government contracts to produce products for various countries' militaries and that sort of thing. Most of those brands got established in a time when the cost of producing high quality products was a lot lower, but the infrastructure to do it at scale was harder to come by. So, you'd get these companies that had a eye for quality, but had infrastructure in place to produce those products at a massive scale. Next thing you know, a war breaks out and now the Italian Army needs leather boots, so who do they talk to?
That's right; Gucci.
Then, the soldiers are wearing these lovely boots that they likely wouldn't have been able to afford on their own, and all the American and German infantry just watch enviously. Now that those soldiers knew what it's like to wear Gucci boots, they'll want to come back if they ever need another pair.
To put it bluntly the name. People by gucci for the reputation associated with the that logo, it's very similar to buying an iPhone or a Mercedes benz. They are all overpriced commodities that are not the best quality out there, many accessories are sturdier than a gucci, many phones offer a better performance and more features than an iphone, and many vehicles are superior to a benz yet People not only chose to pay more for them, they also get defensive and wouldn't accept anything that says there is better out there.
Not every product, service, person, event, destination, or brand. A brand is a name with the power to influence consumer choices. They represent quality, values, heritage, or expectation that solicit consumer loyalty over competing brands.
Hence, brands like Gucci, Botega Veneta, Channel, Dior, Patek Philippe, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès are ultra luxury brands because they embody quality, values, a promise and heritage built over many years. Consumers trust those brands because of that. Hence, the reason for their ultra premium price tag.
Because SO MANY IDIOTS will pay what they ask, for simple shit, and you women think that having that label makes you so much more attractive to guys! LOL!! IDIOT guys, that cannot afford you!
Guys like me LAUGH AT YOU!! Spending so much, for some bullshit label!!!
I love the simple ladies, and they are just themselves, no make-up, no labels, and just being who they are!! Just AMAZING, and PERFECT!!
Knowing these wonderful ladies, why would I even look at these pretentious bitches with labels and Gucci and crap like that?
I'm not into it either. But my male cousin does spend a shit tone of designer brands. They actually last a lot longer than normal clothes so you do actually get your moneys worth. These clothes usually last you decades, so even though you're paying a huge amount at once, it actually works out better value in the long run. Since most clothes only last you a few years before theyre worn out.
My people thinking that a logo is a status symbol and a sign of quality. So lets say you have coffee that measures up Starbucks in every way. You sell it both a plain cup and in a Starbucks cup beside each other. Even if the coffee in a plain cup is half the price as the one in the Starbucks up many people will pay for the same coffee in the Starbucks cup. Simply because of the Starbucks cup and what the have been lead to think.
Also a very big part of it is social engineering and phycology. Yes companies and advertising companies do employ social engineering and phycology to influence how people think. To make them more likely to by their produces and seem them in a better light. But we are not suppose to such practices brainwashing despite them baring many of the aspects of brainwashing programs.
On one hand, expensive techniques fabrics, high amount of design work (as opposed to knocking off others work) and very high marketing budget versus small production level (relatively) means high cost per unit. But beyond that, there's profit. Significantly Gucci is a luxury product where the supply/demand dynamics become a little unusual - many people want Gucci because it's expensive, so they can show off that they're rich, so keeping the price high paradoxically helps demand.
I don't know exactly how it works for Gucci but it's worth noting that quite a few high end brands lose money on their top line stuff. The cost of designing and publicity etc vs the volumes means it doesn't make money. However the high end stuff creates a brand image which they then rake in the money on perfume, accessories or cheap items with the brand logo on.
Good high quality materials. I always buy certain expensive items that will last me forever because they are good high materials. I still have my old white multicolor LV purse from the 00's when I was in 8th grade and its still in good condition. I don't use it because its my favorite bag, brings memories, and its a good collection item. I miss the 00's multicolor LV bags wish they would make a comeback but they are outdated!
Rarely, it’s the actual rarity or quality of the materials used. I think it’s more of the history or supposed history, coupled with famous individuals or celebrities wearing or using such brands. For example, if you look at how much Air Jordans cost, they are no different really than the sneakers you can find in a thrift store, in terms of the materials used. The difference is the name behind the shoe and what it’s associated with, which is what people pay for.
They charge what the market will bear. Dumb people that want to appear wealthy to other dumb people are willing to bear high prices to project an image that they can afford to waste money on over priced material objects. It’s junk marketed to poor people that wish they were rich. You don’t get rich by wasting money on frivolous things.
People want what they dont have and when society continues to instill the idea of " if I got what you can't have or afford, then I'm somebody, I'm a winner, So get like me, or die trying". Attention, Envy, Greed, Because society continues to do. Stupply, Dumband Statass... The masses have the power to make or break anything, they just dont know how stop letting others control it.
Simply just the name itself. Nothing more. What’s interesting, a lot of big names are leasing their brands out now to be put on generic clothes. A $5 shirt can be sold for $35 with a company just purchasing Nike logos from Nike to sell at your local Ross Dress for Less and/or TJ Max, so on. Same for Gucci, Coach and etc.
Gucci does not wants to sell thousands of products..
Gucci is all about selling its products to elites... And consider it luxury..
It's like that make only 1000-10,000 of their products and sell it at very high price to only elites in the society..
Their is nothing special about their products..
Just it's scarcity make them valuable..
Because it's quite hard that you will find other person with the same product..
Gucci products become symbol of status..
Oh!. I forget to mention girls have a problem that they do not want other girls copying their dresses or accessories that girls have. .
Scarcity of Gucci products.. Reduces the possibility that any other girl can copy her accessories that is what make Girls a major part if Gucci customers..
Same thing with the brand Champion. Once a 1 dollar or 5 dollar Tshirt from walmart turned into hundreds to thousands overnight because popular rich people wore them. You could buy the $5 and turn around and sell it for at least a couple grand for a hot minute. Capitalism insanity
They’re name brand so they’re very well known. Once they lose their popularity their value will go down; for example juicy couture used to be extremely popular and expensive until it went out of style. Now you can buy juicy contour at a discount shop
Marketing and extra charge for exclusivity. Who do you think pays those fashion shows and photo shootings with super expensive models? It's the customer.
Good marketing, use of history, social standing of a brand, image in a social dynamic, product placement. All of these allow a company to charge its customers a high premium to buy its products.
😂😂😂😂😂 a down vote on this lol
Because they aren’t fast fashion, and most of their items are handmade not massed produced by machinery, and they pay their workers decent. I’d never purchase it though lol it’s definitely really expensive, and I’d rather invest in something I’d need rather than to impress people I don’t even like.
Because people are willing to pay that much to have a logo to show off. Personally I think if they want me to show off their logo they ought to be paying me for the advertising.
The brand itself, the quality of the materials used and the attention to detail/workmanship…. amongst other things.
It's a brand that manufactures its products from very expensive material, it's brand is selling extremely well and has earned tremendous capital. I'd assume these are a couple of reasons.
People are too eager to have higher highly priced stuff no matter if it is shit lol, And you put a high price on it they will come for it. So those brands are smart on fooling people since I see some fake fashion labels making ugly outfits but expensive yet.
because people are willing to spend the money on a brand name that is probably made in a third world slave shop.
Gucci is considered as one of the most lucrative fashion companies, and only people who know how to make money can afford them. So of course it would be as one of the most expensive companies!
You are purely paying for the name lol I once saw a clip where someone who worked for Michael Kors couldn't tell which handbag was real
Name only, Their products and quality are no better than other products. In some cases they are worse.
They aren't.
Gucci use good quality materials, and it's what most of the price is.
If you're talking about their standard T-shirts and filler stuff, then that's just brand perception.
If everyone agrees to pay more for it then only the richer people get to wear it and thus they get the pretense and status of being such a person.
In other words, it's expensive because people want it to be expensive.
Human stuppidy. People pay for LOGO, pay more to fell rich and cool. Meanwhile there gucci and else are not the best or even better then cheaper brands.
idiots paying the prices they're asking. that's what makes them able to stay that expensive.
Marketing (name brand) worldwide presence and quality of materials.
Branding…people stupidly believing they’re worth more than dollar tree sunglasses.
Guess that’s how currency works too.
Very good marketing and image. Making people think you are a bag of shit if you don't buy and own Gucci.
Demand, and people who have more dollars than sense!
I reckon its the name that's attached to it. It's like a status symbol if you can afford these fancy things.
The quality to an extent but also Mr Gucci decided it's luxury when he came up with it.
Because the quality is supposed to be top of the line, and it's for rich people who can afford “luxury” material.
Most probably the celebrities who brand it and model for it raising it’s marketing value and prestige
Being expensive, showing off how much money you have.
Their target market who is willing to pay a premium for the name
People the more people that want it the higher that demands for it becomes and the higher the demand the more they jack up that price
Their price and people's willingness to pay it... it becomes a status symbol and some people need to feel important that way.
what to do with gucci
enjoy with frnd have conversations thats y we are here right
Owners are greedy and they want more money from victims... customers.
Snob appeal. You can probably find similar quality without the name tag for 1/10 the price. But that stuff screams "I can afford $5,000 for a purse!".
Name brand popularity among celebrities... that's it, nothing else. the cost gucci pays to have things made is less than what you would pay at walmart for the same thing
I think that it's the woman's desire to show off of her class using money. Women often feel worthless without expensive jewelry and bags that people turn their head. I think it shows that her brain is airy.
If you tell everyone you’re the best, you’ll be treated as such
Because they won't be brands if they are not expensive
You can just go to a print shop and print the name on your plain t-shirts and jumpers.
Cheap personalities make them an expansive trend thus high pricing thus you asking thus ne asking if you're ine of them!
they are all just names.
people who spend a lot of money for a trash, they think it's a good thing
It's the same as buying an iPhone or any Apple product. Using a Gucci product shows your status.
The Branding.
Exactly
@Starwitch23
And we mustn't forget the very greedy so-and-so's behind them either.
Brand perception is the only thing that makes brands expensive
people thinking its worth paying that price
people willing to pay that much for some reason cuz it’s italian
Quality or the perception thereof
Cause they can get away with it lol
The quality is supposed to be top notch too i hear. Like it should last a long time
Dumb people who pay for the brand
