Despite being nothing more except a racist cesspool, I must admit those 50's folks have the right idea. I love how people in the 50's used to dress all elegant and ready to always 9 to 5. The men were truly sophisticated with their dashing suits, while the women had looked flawless in their dresses. I definitely gotta say 50's men and women have definitely the right idea in terms of clothing, I definitely wouldn't mind wearing suits but unfortunately these days most suits be expensive and people would think I have a job interview or some shit like that.
But yes the men wearing suits and the women wearing dresses were definitely a great time period in my book but as an African American male the 50's would be really garbage with all the racism, sexism, and homophobia which clouded that era so that won't be as fun. But we isn't discussing about laws and culture with these era's we are simply just discussing about the fashion. So ladies and gentlemen in your own words which era do you consider has the best sort of clothing? And would you actually want to wear the fashion that generation of men and women has worn?

Yes! I love the colors, big hair, clothes, cars, the way houses/buildings were designed and decorated, design in general, etc. The music and pop culture during those decades was fantastic as well!

Yes! Usually most Japanese tend to favor more characters being extremely attractive both genders usually get drawn sexy and beautiful. Unfortunately most americans are getting rid of sexy characters of both genders.

First and foremost, the worst dressed generation is the 2010's and our current decade. I used to think it was the 80's but the current age is even worse. People have no decency anymore. People don't know how to dress, people don't know what looks good on their body type, people don't know how to get things properly tailored.
The best fashion, traditions, lifestyle, et cetera, for me was the 1800s, 1920's, 1940s, and the 50's. The last well dressed decade was the 60's, for sure. Fashion went downhill fast after that.
Fortunately, there are still people around that still have decency. I, for example, don't care about current trends. I still dress like it was the 40's and 50's. I wear vintage suits, vintage hats, waistcoats, pocket watches, trousers with suspenders, et cetera. I even have original Victorian Era jackets. Sure, I get stares and smirks but I also get pleasant comments and how they wished more people dressed up.
Oh, God, yes, the current decade (2010s) is terrible. I tend to like anything before 2000. There was a lot more variety in clothing styles, not like today when it seems that everyone is dressed at most a half dozen different ways, like a friggin uniform.
I was looking at some old 1980s episodes of The Price Is Right online, and noticed that the contestants used to dress really nice back then. Today (stopping at 2020 LOL) it's as if they just rolled out of bed and into the studio. Good grief!!
@John987654321 Just took a look at some of the episodes from 2020... wow. Barely anyone dressed up a bit to be on TV. Graphic tees, sweatpants, hoodies etc. Jeez... accurate for our times indeed. Nobody takes care in how they look anymore. I've seen the same type of clothing on people even at the bloody Opera. You'd think they would dress up to go to an event like that... nope...
Yes, I definitely approve fashion had took a major turn for the worst unfortunately I am seeing people wearing pajamas as everyday wear. Plus being lazy became a the new norm, most people people choose comfort and casualty over sophisticated and being super beautiful and presentable.
You can go back to the early 1940's and the zoot suits and she how much African American and Hispanic fashion influenced America. The problem was that it hit at the wrong time: WWII, when being patriotic meant essentially being lily white.
My own grandmother told me that during the war she and my grandfather would cross Figueroa St. in south Los Angeles to visit the so called "black clubs" where they could enjoy jazz music from the top black performers of the era.
African American fashion and music has, to this day, had a major influence on what makes up America. Yes, I'm an old white guy, but by now I think you understand that I am NOT color blind.
Yes! I heard that there were black fashion around that time, but usually it was kept hidden because being a non white men around that time wasn't exactly safest. But cool about the black clubs though.
I think I like the 1940s fashion best. The older I become, the more I delve into the past (even the past long before I was around), and I find history more and more interesting. The women of the 1940s were just mesmerizing to me. I am talking about on film, however, when the outfits were made to wow audiences. And all that blingy jewellery, and bold makeup. Still, even the much more affordable, commercial consumer level, clothing had great lines, lots of fluidity. And hats, and suits, for men. I love all of it.
Many people dress like shit now, tbh. What they can wear to bed, they are wearing outside, yet people think nothing of it.
It would depend on to what age you are asking this question. If you asked me as a teen I probably would have responded with jeans and leather with a t-shirt.
As a businessman, I would have done the business suit. I rarely wore a hat back then, but wear one constantly when I'm out and about now.
Usually all ages and both genders can answer my questions. I don't really create a question for a specific unless I stated it in the question. But yes I usually create questions literally everyone can answer you know to keep it at least fair.
Those men probably had class and chivalry. Leagues above the so called men today. And by the way, homosexuality is a sin and should not be embraced by anyone.

when I mean lolita I mean very strictly the fashion heavily influenced by old old Victorian fashion. I dont care for the newer stuff or "sweet lolita" but gothic/classic/old school and any resemblance of old Victorian fashion is very beautiful. Also stupidly expensive, but that pairs in with the elegance appeal.
I dont mean lolita in any terms close to the pedobait stuff the anime community has and whatever.

But cool though, but yes going goth is also such a mainstream appeal as well, I probably won't try it because I kinda just don't want to wear only black. Unless most goths have different colors do goths wear different colors or is it just straight up black?
I'll always have a fondness for the 80s despite some of it being so trashy and cringe worthy lol. I think the 40s and 50s had some of the best fashion back when men wore suits and women wore nice dresses.

Agreed! It’s the 60s for me I love the 50s too. The 60s were full of bright prints and color and women seem to be more creative with fashion. That I am super drawn to. But I wish we did dress nice all the time like they once did. Would be refreshing.
There was no notion that men are the uglier sex that is common nowadays. In that time period both men and women could strive to look beautiful. There was more freedom for men than nowadays. There was no Beau Brummell and his ideas that men need to wear dark, toned, simple clothing. Everything could have various colours. Even pink was ok. Men could wear various embellishments and embroidery. Also, some types of clothing, like hosiery were not yet stollen by women.
Everything had to adhere to certain aesthetics. Even soldiers wore stockings and powdered wigs to battle. The clothing harmonised with the spirit of the epoch: beauty and ornaments in paintings, music, furnitures, etc...
Unfortunately, this is too sublime for most people today. To a modern person, who does not understand the spirit of baroque/rococo it seems strange, odd or effeminate.
I managed to acquire a book about 18th century sewing patterns and had the tailor made me such a clothing. Unluckily, there are not many places you can go with clothing like this.
Yes I can imagine that usually most suits be shit expensive, and considering most men tried to constantly purchase suits I don't think they realistically had enough to afford another sort of outfit.
