I've always wanted pink or blue in my hair, but am too scared to ruin my hair. I have naturally curly brown hair, and I don't know how if the bleach would really ruin my curls or not or my color.
In the summer my hair dresser has said they are super jealous because I get red tinges and she's said it's so nice because she has to pay lots of $ if she wants her hair looking like my color.
They put a couple pink and blue glue in extentions one time to see if I would like it, and I did, but I also never really have to fuss around with my hair. It's like shower, comb it and it's super easy maintenance.. But since the streaks would dry straight, I always had to take the time to blow dry them, and curl them just to make it sort of look natural but it wasn't the same curl either.
I was thinking though, if I got an ombre effect (something like the picture I added) but maybe not as far up as it. but something like this. would that ruin my hair? or possibly the natural curl? I was just thinking if it was near the ends, I could always have it dyed ombre a few times and once I'm over it I could just get them. to cut the bleached areas out without having to wait for the roots and everything to re grow.
Or would my hair still be wrecked? sorry I don't know much about hair dying!

The short answer is basically yes. In order to do these shades which are popular now, they have to lighten your base up to the lightest possible, a level 10 out of 10. They first bleach out all the pigment, turn your hair grey-white, then add a second process of colour (pink, in this case) on top. But now your hair is fragile and drier than it was before. It doesn't have the same integrity that it did, so it can't hold onto the colour for long. That's why you see a lot of people walking around with very faded pop colours, and greyish white. You are low maintenance, you say, wash and go, basically. I think you'll be disappointed with the byproduct of this. You could, as you are considering, have only the ends lightened. Just the perimeter bottom, not around the front, going far up the shaft. Then, when it's damaged and fades out to white, have them cut it off. But you'll lose that length of course. It wouldn't be the typical way to do it though. Most people want more than just a couple or few inches on the bottom to be coloured.
thank you! I'm almost wondering if I should just try that colorista product from a drug mart that doesn't need bleach to lighten and is just meant for darker hair. I think there is a blue. It's temporary but maybe it wouldn't ruin it then. I want a change but I also don't want my whole head colored lol
It won't do much. I've experimented on my husband's hair. He has black hair and it didn't even show up. In order for these colours to be seen, the pigment has to first be removed. Drug store boxes are temporary colour, that skips the first important step, and lays colour on top. But think of it as trying to draw on a sheet of black paper with a wax crayon. It's not like white paper. They don't have some magic special ingredient. And whatever does barely show up (we saw no blue in his hair at all), will wash out quickly. Hair is dead, not a living entity. There are commercials and products telling you they can repair your hair, moisturize it, but what it's doing is laying a temporary product over the hair, smoothing the cuticle down, and giving the impression of health through smoothness. Colouring hair is about removing the natural pigment, and then adding dye on top, but it's never the same as your natural pigment. Maybe try some clip-in fun hair pieces, just like an inch wide and however long your hair is. But you have to try and match the texture a bit, so they blend in. Then clip underneath your hair, so the clip is blended enough.
Professionally done or not any type of hair dye needs some maintenance. Hair dye tends to dry your hair so you need to keep your hair hydrated by doing regular hair masks a few times a day and maybe apply a serum if you don't want your hair to get ruined.
Will surely kill off your hair an you will have to do it again and again, won't be nateral anymore, more straightened curled and malnurished... But if you like it then why not? ... I know girls that have just gave up as they are saying it was bleached that much that it wasn't worth it in the first place.

Why would you want to do that to your beautiful hair? You've been told it's pretty. Don't know what effect it would have but you should keep your natural.
I don't know about your hair health, but it would make your hair look worse. It's an ugly style. Plus, on general principle, natural is better and healthier.
