Nope they are unattractive cause it's just simply not appealing to the eyes, compared to a girl that slimmer or whatnot, this is of course speaking of obesity, when a girl is a bit thicker or a bit chunkier and even chubby is still attractive to the eyes well to some more than others, now don't get me wrong there's people out there that have a thing for huge people but I'm speaking for the most part.
Extreme obesity is unattractive because of an inbred instinctive response. Instinctively, we select mates based on their health to provide for healthy offspring and extreme obesity looks unhealthy and unable to do that.
Moderate obesity (aka slightly overweight) is unattractive because society says so.
Because it's unhealthy. That woman could drop dead from a heart attack any time after 45. Not to mention that her legs look like a pile of chewed bubble gum instead of normal legs. I don't think most people mind a few extra pounds, but that's not just a few.
It's both. It's physically unattractive and it also has negative social connotations because it's as bad (or worse) as it looks. Obese people are often perceived as lazy, neglectful people, with no self control, which are unattractive qualities. They can't work when they reach a certain point and they become a burden to their families and to the system.
Obesity isn't to be considered a defining characteristic, like freckles or a missing limb. It is a preventable disease. Those who are obese are sick, and those who try to paint it positively in society are enablers.
The same goes for any other preventable and unhealthy state of being. Most of society is only doing what's right, unless there is an upcoming famine in which people will need to survive on their own fat stores.

i think for me when i see someone who is obese, i imagine what it would be like if i was in their shoes and it just makes me freak out. i could never in a million years be like that.

We find it unattractive. You like lifting a man’s guy up to see his cock? If he has too small of a dick, he might not be able to have sex with you because his gut is hitting you. Then there is the health factors. Nothing good comes from being fat.
Society has made us believe that fat people are fat because they don't eat healthy and that they're so lazy to do exercise (and that is unattractive). Which is totally false and many factors can come up to their difficulty of losing weight. politistic ovaries for example, or muscular mass.
Obesity means high intake of calories and lack of movement. It may also be perceived as a synonym of decent income/power (in the past only rich/powerful people would put on weight = eat big amounts of food while not having to work the land)
Nowadays, it’s perceived as an unhealthy consequence of modern society in the western world.
I think it’s hard for most folks to be attracted to someone who is so obviously unhealthy, unless they themselves follow the same unhealthy lifestyle.
However, I know people can be attracted to those types of people who are trying to turn their lives around and show almost impossible dedication and fight to change.
Personally, I’m attracted to fit and healthy. Physically and mentally.

1) That you're unhealthy, not a good choice for a breeding partner.
2) That you don't care about yourself.
3) You make poor choices.
Healthy is called healthy for a reason.
Neither obesity or anorexia is attractive in my eyes. I think it's possible for majority of people to get into the "normal" range.
Personally obesity turns me off but some men get off over it.

It’s instinctual. We are attracted to people that appear fertile and healthy. People tend to gain weight as they age, so obesity is also a sign of aging and lost vitality.

There are skinny men who loves fat women! As long as you happy with yourself or dating a fat person it shouldn't matter what other thinks. Now does it?
