Shampoo and Conditioner?

Do you use both? Have a complex routine? Just apply, rinse, go? Something else? Need to know what they are?

Was inspired by this question by my 17 year old son who came home with a $27 bottle of shampoo and equally priced bottle of conditioner to ensure his hair looks its best for his girlfriend. Then there's my wife with her Aussie products and making sure to leave the conditioner in for X minutes. And my daughter, whose shampoo and conditioner must be strawberry scented. I use TriSwim or TREsemmé products. Conditioner stays in for just a few minutes while I wash my body.

It's not really complex but having a good hair care routine has made my hair so much healthier. I usually mix around 5 drops of rosemary oil with coconut oil and massage it into my scalp. I leave it overnight and wash my hair the next morning. I use a shampoo, hair mask and then a conditioner. My conditioner contains hyaluronic acid and my shampoo contains niacinamide. The conditioner is not that expensive as compared to the shampoo.

I stopped taking care of my hair in 10th grade and that's when my hair started thinning. I started taking care of my hair again, roughly about 6 months ago and the improvement is crazy! A good routine can do wonders to your hair.

I'm a girl with longer hair and I have found that washing and scrubbing the shampoo in for a good 2 minutes then rinsing and instantly working conditioner into it really works. I let the conditioner sit for the rest of the shower so about 5 minutes then rinse it out with the coldest setting on the knob.

Cold water helps lock in the moisture that you want from the conditioner and it also feels really good!

I had a beautician tell me to leave conditioner on my hair and that strengthens it and gives it body to grow so who knows about these products and the products she recommended were VO5 she told me to do this without washing it out so who knows.

I use a "leave in" conditioner after I shower. I don't like running the water that long to use both shampoo and conditioner in the shower.

I've used that before and really liked what it did to my hair but I also ended up feeling like I had to take a shower before bed. It was a dilemma.

It took a bit of looking to find one that wasn't like that. Plus, I find I have to limit the amount.

I had bad chemical burns from Shampoo awhile back, so I make my own with no harsh cleansers. And I use Teas Tree honey conditioner that I also make. I’m also allergic to sodium lauryl sulfate. I have very sensitive skin as well so I just prefer to use what I know won’t affect me.

Fascinating! Yeah, and it's amazing how many things have the sodium lauryl sulfate in them. Good for you for making your own though, that's cool.

That's awesome and funny. That would not work in my house. There's six of us and everyone has really specific preferences. To the point that I have a list I take to the store with me.

I use a 2 in one shampoo. It's soap for your hair and conditioner. I just use it to wash my whole body. I just want to be in and out of the shower. No special routine. Just get in, lather, rinse and get out.

Sort of related (hair and helmets) I remember one time in the Navy when my boss was giving a helicopter ride to a member of Congress. Her hair was perfectly styled... until she had to put the helmet on to get on the helo. Just crushed all the styling and spray and mousse she had going on.
