I get that makeup does a lot to enhance beauty, but why do so many women look so tired without makeup on?

I don't mean this as a dig or to come across condescending in some sort of chauvinist rant, but I have noticed this with a LOT of women. A lot of you look so exhausted when you don't have makeup on. Like, it's noticeable aging... do men look really exhausted too?

For example, my girl posted a picture with her mother recently, and even though she's still so beautiful, this woman looks like she aged a good 10-15 years. Instead of looking like she's standing with her mom, I feel like I'm looking at two older, middle-aged sisters.

My girl is 29. I'll admit that this is an extreme example, but I've noticed something similar on other women. With makeup, she looks 24 or 25. Without makeup, if you told me she was in her 40s, I would believe you without much convincing. I get that makeup smooths out the imperfections, but wow...

Are y'all just extremely stressed all the time? What about guys?

Cosmetics in this age are like magic they can turn anyone into a Disney prince or princess. it's normal its because in the old days we used to compare ourselves to the people in our community but these days we compare ourselves with the whole world specifically the top beauties or the top bodybuilders. that's why it has led to people having low self esteem and no confidence

Because life is hard lol I never get enough sleep ugh. I think as well we are used to seeing filtered or surgically altered people that we know the age of more often than natural examples of age, like you don’t know strangers ages unless you have a job checking IDs so you are just assuming what people look like at each age. When I check ID I’m often thinking like 😳 you are younger than me but I thought you were much older 😬 am I this old?

Thats part of why i dont wear it in general. I noticed how half dead people look without it. I wore it for ballet and that was it. But i think its chemicals in that stuff that does something to ppls skin the more and more they wear it.

There are certain cosmetic procedures that age people too. Lip fillers are especially bad that way. As soon as the plumping solution wears off, otherwise youthful-looking women look 10 years older.

You’re probably just too accustomed to seeing women with makeup on that you consider that to be the way we’re “suppose” to look. Women with a completely bare face isn’t something most people are use to anymore so it ends up looking a bit abnormal

I get why you read my question that way. Maybe I should have been more explicit. I'm not trying to comment on how someone "should" look. It's not that I'm expecting women to look a certain way, it's that I'm not expecting them to look the way they do. It's like if you bought tickets to see a random movie that someone else chooses, and then someone asks you if the movie was the genre you were hoping to see. Even if the movie was good, I didn't have any hope or expectation about the movie, it just happened to work out well.

I wouldn't know what to say about that. I find it odd that many women look so old without makeup. I look my age when I wear it.

It kinda surprises me too. Every woman is different, of course, but I've noticed that it's pretty common for women to look exhausted and a few years older when they are plain faced.

COsmetics somtimes work a little too well, and when they are absent the difference is noticable.

It’s pretty wild. I don’t find her any less attractive without the makeup, but it was a little startling to see how different she looks.
