How do I get used to uniforms?

Question

I do have a soft spot for men in uniforms but I hate wearing uniforms myself. My new job includes us to wear a uniform, everyone, men and women are wearing them. Life’s testing me haha :)

I dislike the inability to stand out, I’ve never worn a uniform, when I worked in court I was the only person who was wearing pink mini dresses, because I liked to and I didn’t like to be told what to wear. Now I don’t wear mini dresses here, but I hate to wear something loads of other people are wearing.

Where’s my right to stand out? :( Hmm… I’ve never worn a uniform in my entire life… How do I get used to it…

I'm sure you knew it was required before taking the job, correct? Being a "stand out" isn't dependent on the clothes you wear, it's dependent on what you do. Many teams in sports or workplaces wear the same clothes but still have "stand out players" on the team because of how they perform.

Better to stand out because you're "outstanding" than because you're "the one in the pink mini-skirt".

You get used to it by doing it and it becomes routine. That's the only way.

I assume you like your job and want to keep it, thus you say to yourself that "I like my job and this is the requirement" and you put your uniform on day after day.

In a few months you won't even notice.

I was required to wear uniforms from pre-k till my senior year of high school (attended private schools). You don't have to trick yourself into wearing them everyday, you'll get used to it as time goes on. Find a different job if this does not suit your requirements.

I've worn a uniform my entire life. I went to catholic school for 18 years and had to wear a uniform. I now work in retail management and have to wear a uniform. I dont mind wearing a uniform.

Well... you will need to get used to it or perhaps find a different job I suspect. Maybe adopt striking hairstyles or interesting shoes or something of that sort?

Stand out with your personality. I have worn uniforms for the majority of my jobs my whole life and it becomes second nature. Military, chemical handling, grocery store, gym, etc. The only jobs I haven't had to was when I was doing lab analysis and when I worked as a machinist for a bit.

Clock in and out of work. I was grateful for uniforms in my line of work. I’d rather tear up the companies clothes on the job rather than my own. It’s about performance at those jobs. The uniform does not make the man, the man makes the uniform.

I had to wear a uniform when I worked for a government agency. I never wore a uniform before but I didn't care. You just put on the uniform, go to work, and start working. The uniform was the last thing in my mind while I was working.

There is no standing out individually when wearing a uniform. All you can do is wear it well lol. You'll get used to it after a while just with time. You probably won't ever like it though

Can you not wear jewelry with your uniform? I don't like wearing uniforms either so once you get off work take it off and get into your real clothes.
