How does one grow more comfortable wearing more revealing clothes?

Question

First thing's first, the girl in the picture is my best friend. Yes, I asked for her permission, and she said it's fine as long as I hide her face. And I showed her the picture with the face hidden like above, and she approved of me posting it on here.  But anyway... so I live somewhere hot and humid, and my best friend always wears revealing clothing and looks so cute and so comfortable while doing so. And I wanna start dressing like her, but it's kind of hard to feel comfortable showing that much skin when I've been covering up my whole life. Mostly for religious reasons because of religious parents, but yeah... I don't necessarily find clothes that cover up my skin and that are baggy to be that comfortable, but it's what I'm used to. It was drilled into my head as "proper" and "modest" attire. I asked my best friend about this, and she told me she doesn't know how to help me because she's been wearing revealing clothes her whole life anyway, and didn't have to "adjust" or "get used to it" like me.

Maybe ask your friend to help you go clothes shopping. She'll tell you what looks good on you and what doesn't. That said, I would also say, don't give up on religion just because right now you want to explore being in the flesh more. Most of us also went through it when we were teens and 20s. Even the Amish have developed a tradition to allow kids to be kids called Rumspringa. They go out for several years to be crazy, be in the world, explore the flesh, and gain that life experience, and then come back home and back to their faith. But just because the flesh is dominating your thoughts right now, doesn't mean what you previously learned is false. It just means your body wants to act contrary to what you know and learned. It's part of humans being "broken". So, you might even give God one final prayer here. "I feel like I'm going to let the flesh lead for a while, but please be sure to lead me back to You when it's time." Then do what you're going to do, and later in life when the flesh starts to simmer down a little, don't forget to look back on those experiences and frame them in the right way. Best of luck.

I have no advice about how to become more comfortable. This post made me just very aware how Southern California must have a skewed demographic because that picture would not even come close to be considered revealing by almost any metric here. That’s a step above soccer mom attire found in any grocery store, public park, sport stadium, or amusement park.

I generally don’t care for SoCal too much and would be just fine living somewhere else (and plan on it soon enough) but I guess I am grateful for this little SoCal quirk.

I think the first thing that you need to do is to build your confidence. Wearing revealing clothes in public requires thick skin because there would be people who aren’t comfortable with your dressing and give you that unpleasant, dirty look. You need to know how to tackle that kind of situation without ruining your day. Try wearing it at home first, then walk around your yard, maybe neighborhood to see how you feel about it. Take some pictures and tell yourself that you look great. Practise this until you are comfortable enough to bring yourself in the public. Remember, do not bother people staring at you because they are not paying your bills! I hope it works for you.

First you need to stop caring about what other people think.

Second focus on the good things and not the bad ones. Try to think about how it makes you look better. It's all about confidence and not giving a fuck about other opinions

you would need a few steps. first once you decide the heat is annoying, start wearing shorts in you room when nobody sees you, so you yourself adjust.

2, while you feel awkward, do not where revealing in public, only in your room, because it would strain your emotions.

instead due to heat, wear in public short sleeves and thinner fabric or roll up sleeves, for cooling. not a revealing low cut or shoulder strap style. look around and NOTICE how others dress around you.

3, once you set your goal, gradualy roll up pants legs, a few inches. later, when you are ready a few more inches until you are ready for shorts. but in my opinion don't go to the extreme, of too revealing, as done by the "role models" in music videos.

There’s a few things you can do. You can buy more revealing clothes and try to wear them in your room where you don’t have to worry about anybody seeing you: which can make you more comfortable wearing them

Take a deep breath. Your friend looks cute, no seriously she does I’d ask her out XD. But nobody is going to judge her for wearing what she is wearing. Your main worry is if somebody grabs your body but that rarely happens and you can call legal services if it’s every that bad

Try to be confident. When you wear the clothes maybe look in the mirror and be like “yeah i look so cute” and “other guys will like how I look” be proud you’re so beautiful and cute and you’ll love wearing some of those clothes.

Don't. You can wear dresses or skirts with nice blouse. You will look feminine and demure while also showing your self respect and modesty and it is cooler. Just have too look for better quality dresses and skirts cotton for example.

It can depend on many factors. One is self-esteem; if we are OK with our bodies and like revealing clothes, we will be OK wearing them. Another is securing a need to be accepted so we align to current trends to be accepted by the group we are in. Also wanting to find a partner some women show more of their bodies, lol

I think your wearing shorts is normal anywhere in the world. I assumed you Muslim right. Now a day many Muslim southeast Asian countries wearing shorts, like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, so on. My girlfriend is Muslim from East Asian country, she wear revealing and exposuring outfits.

Small steps... you wear a flirty skirt one day, then a deeper cut shirt the next. Just gradually build your comfort level up over time

Stretch your comfort level a little at a time. Shorter shorts than you typically wear. A lower neckline, higher hemline on a shirt... Etc.
