A guy sent me a selfie of himself - what does it mean?

I met this guy from tinder few weeks back, haven't met him before but really friendly. We haven't talked much, but we texted back and forth several times, friends on Facebook (with an ongoing 'poke' war between each other) - we talked about to finally meet each other after the Christmas holidays. A few days ago, (after not texting each other for a while) he randomly sent me a picture of himself (a selfie of himself being cute and all - not nude). I sent him back a similar selfie of myself in attempt to be "cute" in the attempt to play along, but only got a smile as a reply. Maybe I am overthinking this, but I'm really wondering what does this mean? I know this is just a way of flirting but, should I start "steering" the "relationship" somewhere, somehow? How do you text a guy without giving the impression of being desperate? I have to be honest, I am quite curious about where this could go, since he seems to be a really nice guy. Thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated.

You're right - you're overthinking it.
You appear pretty nervous about coming across as desperate - I'd try not to worry. If you're just interested in him, and he sounds interested in you, neither of you will look desperate.
Desperate would be like... "OMFG, Y U NO TEXT ME BACK IN LIKE 5 SECONDS!!!" lol

Why are you waiting until after the holidays?
Just text him and talk to him! You won't seem desperate unless you do it all the time and start listing the names of your future children.

No, I have not met him. Both of us are in different colleges in the same city, and finals are coming up, and we will be traveling right after its over. We both said that we would meet after we're back from traveling (after the holidays).
He just invited me on Facebook to go to a concert he's doing though. I don't know if I should tell him personally (text) that I will go or just show up and be "cute" and surprise him and all. /:

I think if you like each other that much, and you're in the same city, there's little excuse to not meet up. I'd text him about the concert just as a courtesy if I was going to go.
