Women underestimate their attractiveness whereas men are overly complacent about theirs. In general, women are much more concerned about their appearance than men are. The key reason for this is that their appearance is central to how they are evaluated by others.
#Women also spend huge amounts of money on clothes, cosmetics, and other products and services that enhance their physical appearance.
We see this quite clearly in connection with the slender standard of attractiveness where women wish to be more slender than men find attractive.
As you had mentioned about few users. The answer is BDD. BOTH genders have this Disorder.

#BDD is a body-image disorder characterized by persistent and intrusive preoccupations with an imagined or slight defect in one's appearance.
People with BDD can dislike any part of their body, although they often find fault with their hair, skin, nose, chest, or stomach. In reality, a perceived defect may be only a slight imperfection or nonexistent. But for someone with BDD, the flaw is significant and prominent, often causing severe emotional distress and difficulties in daily functioning.
It's reality. Ladies Thanks for reading my opinion. Girls Thanks Downvotes.

Although I voted girls, guys can also be as insecure. While the social norm is that guys shouldn't care about their looks, evolution says otherwise.
While there are some women who will marry for money, they are surprisingly far and few in between. Tiger Woods' ex wife initially did not want to date Tiger... in fact, she declined his advances on more than one occasion. Alex Smith, QB for the Kansas City Chiefs, was rejected by his wife initially.
A surprising number of guys will spend a lot of money on wardrobe, plastic surgery, lipo, etc. The girls still outweigh the guys in terms of surgeries like rhinoplasty and chin implants, but there is a good percentage of guys who go under the knife as well.
These are mostly guys who are already attractive and are told so many times and they feel there is like 1 or 2 things holding them back. These are the ones most likely to get surgery. For guys who have several things holding them back they usually don't opt for surgery.
But yes... it's still women by a large margin, but I feel that men are closing the gap.
Definitely girls, myself included. I'm very insecure just because of my early influence from magazines etc. We've been so affected by social media from an early age to look pretty and look a certain way. We're taught to look youthful, perfect and feminine and even look a certain way that's supposed to be the most beautiful according to society. Full lips, small nose, big eyes, cheekbones that could cut through glass, hence why so many instagram girls look the same and also why a lot of women get botox etc. But I definitely think social media has started to effect guys lately and made them insecure as well.
Girls are way more insecure we always have to listen to the sentence "you need to lose more weight to look good in the summer" or similar sentences, sometimes I'm just done being a girl because girls are mostly misunderstood or sometimes not taken serious when you're defending yourself. When you're defending yourself all guys say "calm down, stop making a fuss about small things" when they're being rude to you. You're getting told by guys that you should shut up and not make a fuss about something when you're just defending yourself !
Actually, i matters form individual to individual seeing how they are told. The majority thinks that girls are, but the reason behind that would probably be because girls are usually open-mouthed. The talk before thinking. Guys are... well. They dont just say out anything or everything and they have an amazing way of hiding it. What makes us insecure is the society, the judgments. And that applies to all the genders.

The progressive west has made men into pretty boys. So they are now as insecure as girls.
Appearances are everything now for men and girls. Such a shame.
Although it is more pronounced in girls, men are pressured into looking like boy band material. Justin beiber backstreet boys shit. If you as pretty as them, you deserve an equally pretty girl.
Because, equality right? Its more fun if its a peer that you are equal with in social standing and status and looks.
I dont know when that shit started i just know it turned boys into metrosexualsI think it's mostly girls... my reasoning is this (and I mean as a general rule of thumb not just all the time), guys don't spend near as much time actively seeking to improve their appearance the way girls do. Many girls spend 15 or more minutes a day on their makeup routine, and many others have whole work out routines set up so they can maintain or atain the "perfect body."
Maybe guys are equally insecure but the way they respond to those feelings of insecurity are much less... observable so to speak. It's hard to say. Women are kind of famous for it, but I know men go through a lot of body shaming nonsense too.
I feel really lucky that the age I am, and where and how I grew-up, I got a lot more messages about finding my sense of self-worth in my creativity, intelligence, basic decency as a person.
I did not feel a lot of heavy pressure to look different except when I became this giant awkward girl with boobs all of a sudden when all my friends were these tiny gymnasts. Suddenly people started treating me like I was 5 years older, or 10. It was a very strange time.
I have had people try to shame and bully me over my body, even at this age, but since I look in the mirror and know I am a stone fox, it usually just rolls off. Don't like me? Don't look? Both. It's a misconception that only females are concerned with appearance. I do think males are just as insecure, though they may be better at hiding it. It's also possibly easier for them to hide it based on their trends being far removed from the demanding female head-to-toe aesthetic. Males will have much simpler trends that stick to hair styles and clothing in general forms, not body shapes (weight and proportion trends), hair-colors (and multicolor techniques such as balayage, streaks, chunks, highlights, hombre, white-silver bleach hair death, etc) and make-up (don't even get me started).
I think girls because more of them is on display. Boobs are easier to see than a dick. Plus, there's a whole industry dedicated to making girls prettier (the makeup industry). But plenty of guys are insecure as well. But I think its more of a symptom of caring about what people think. Guys and girls may have the same low opinion of their self worth, but they react differently. The girl could react like "Oh my god, I need to lose weight or I'm worthless!" Whereas guys have more of a tenancy to react callously and say "i may be fat, but fuck all y'all. I don't give a shit what you think. you can fight me if you have a problem with it." Both have a poor self image. one cares, the other doesn't.
Also guys are more agressive about fixing things, so if a guy wants to shape up, he's 100% in, girls might settle for 80%. So girls are slower to fix the issue, leading to them feeling insecure for a longer period of time.Oh... girls are?
I'd beg to differ - if any of these people who voted ever read 5 questions on here... they've seen at least 4 about detailed penis descriptions and insecure searches for approval...
HahaI think women but I did have a eating disorder when I was a kid and watched way too much anime I would do insane work outs.
Also steroids is like one of the most used illigal drug's. Which guys are using for looks and not sporting reasons.Well let's keep it simple, girls always try too hard (not that i donr like) but for ever they always working on their beauty. Now guys either u look good or u look good lol. I mean try wearing make up and not be judged by a pathetic/racist society? 🤔
Due to media (magazines, tv etc...) both sexes have become insecure as to what they see, read or here about gibes them expectations of what they should look like. Women tend do under go a lot more procedures than men, however a lot of men are still suffering low self esteem (especially when it comes to approaching women for some odd reason)...
I think they're about the same. It only seems like women are more insecure because it's long been acceptable for them to express their insecurities. Men still aren't allowed this in the US. If you take a look at "how do I approach her" and "does she like me" questions by men on this site, you'll find a plethora of "man up" and "stop being a pussy" type comments from both genders.
Any "reasons" for guys to feel insecure about their looks wane in comparison to the number of them that girls have - some being reasonable and some not so much.
Women care more about a guy's personality, character, values, social status, intelligence.
It's not that guys have no reason to take care of themselves in the looks department, it's just that they have a lot less to lose than women if they're not physically appealing to them.
P. S. Asking to be rated isn't exactly proof of insecurity.I've actually read and heard that men are much more insecure than women. I think people forget that men worry about how they look. It isn't a girl thing to hate yourself.
I can't even say one gender has it more than the other, cause sadly it seems like basically everyone has insecurities... Its so sad to see since I don't have any. I'm not perfect looking either I just embrace the flaws and make it better. Of the world and everyone in it wasn't so pressured by society we would all be perfect in our own standards. FUCK THE HATERS.
Maybe it's more obvious with girls than boys, but we're just all the same as humans.
Although masculenity standards are fairly demmanding, females are just bombarded with media telling them they NEED to look a certain way to be attractive since the time they come into the world. Very taxing on anyones psyche and explains a higher insecurity in females than males.
girls, because society puts a lot more pressure on them. A lot of businesses make money from these insecurities and promote them. A great example of this are make up companies, brainwashing girls from a young age that they need make up to be beautiful. Im not saying guys have insecurities- I'm just saying that girls are way more insecure about themselves. Im jealous that guys don't have to worry about a lot of things that girls have to worry about everyday.
girls. it may seem like guys are hella insecure about their dicks but o. m. g. girls dont have penises. and if they did, im p sure that theyd be equally as insecure about them, if not more. eating disorders in girls are WAYYY higher than guys
I honestly think both are. I'm not a mysoginist, I just had a lot of childhood issues (my mom was a selfish bitch, whom I always tried to please and never was satisfied) and because of this I grew up thinking that all women are like this. However, now I think both are equally insecure (even though I'm a little inclined to say men)
Is it wrong? I'd be glad to see it is.Our Culture has gauged a women's worth based on their appearance for a long time, and usually when they are successful they are never talked about unless they are attractive. It's one of the reasons Oprah is so popular to older women, because she occasionally tries to sell them miracle advice or enhancements, to make them seem younger or give them some sort of resolve that they can appear young based on how they act.
definitely girls. Thats why they put so much make up on to hide their face. And then make it harder for the real women out there.
