Weird situation with a girl I like?

We talk sometimes, I see her at work. we had few arguments but after they passed we became much nicer to each other for some reason that I do not know. Today I saw her walking so I smiled at her she looked at me smiled back, then both of us awkwardly talked together saying things that do not make since while she is passing me by. She smiled at that then she said that she wishes me a great weekend. Was it awkward? why this happened?
