How do you practice talking to girls in a non-cringe way?

I want to get better at talking to girls, but I don't know where the best place to go is. I would just go to the bar but I know my luck. I'm going to get pepper sprayed, mugged, stopped by police, etc. Is there literally anywhere else I can go besides a bar?
