I feel spoiled. The photographer who took me photos yesterday just uploaded my photos on his social media and wrote “The Love Goddess.”
I have nothing in common with Goddess but what a bliss to be compared to one…
This girl randomly complimented my tattoo at an ice cream shop when it was busy (she loved how vibrant it was) and the girl in line behind her lit up and said that she had thought the same thing. My tattoo is almost 10yrs old and I take really meticulous care of it since it is watercolor and doesn’t have a black outline. So that felt really good
None recently. But there are a few that I will remember forever:
1. You make me feel safe - ex
2. You might say otherwise, but I know I can rely on you if I my life depended on it - a junior of mine
3. There are two very similar ones:
"You and <friend's name> are very special. I've been teaching for a decade, trust me when I say you two are special" - a professor (to me and my friend)
"I've been teaching for 15 years, never seen another like him. He's one of a kind" - another professor (didn't hear this first hand like the one above, instead, a lot of my juniors told me that the professors often say this about me)
My favourite one is still the first one 😅
Nothing. Men aren’t usually don’t get complements as much as women like to say they think men do. We really don’t. I can’t remember when’s the last time I got a compliment. A lot of compliments that come from men may be genuine, or he’s just trying to butter you up to get closer to you.
When the guy I like surprises me by saying something sweet or showing he cares... That's the best compliment in my opinion.

Somebody named me as being one of "the most inspiring people they know on GAG"! Getting “compliments” based on my appearance is not exactly what I consider a compliment, because I did not have anything to do with the appearance of my face… That was 100% my parents genetics! But when somebody compliments, my accomplishments in life, and my resilience through tremendous adversity… That is truly a compliment!

I don't think compliments on one's physical appearance are a bad thing. There's a spiritual chick on youtube I watch and there is sometimes some controversy cause she gets comments on her looks. And women say, oh men, typical, blah blah blah. But I'm of the persuasion that the physical is a reflection of the inner. And she's honestly, spiritually beautiful. I'm picking up on her energy. I wouldn't just compliment a woman for being physically attractive. And in any case I don't think there is anything wrong with appreciating peoples' physical appearance. Why do we have to create these splits of pushing away appreciation for the physical?
And then if we break everything down to the physical, and the West think everything in a person's character can be reduced to the 'mind' anyway, then that's just lauding a brain isn't it?
Anyway, I'm probably being annoying and I'll leave you to it, haha.
@Levin As Caroline stated beautifully, what you wrote was not annoying at all. I’m not against getting compliments on my appearance, especially when it comes from my boyfriend. when Lee sees me ready to go out, and says “My God! You are SO incredibly beautiful!”. That’s amazing to hear! But Lee more often compliments me on things I do, or accomplish. He'll compliment me on something I cooked. It doesn't sound fake or over-laudatory, he sounds grateful and really appreciative. When I first met some of Lee’s friends, in a college town, “what’s your major” is basically the second question you ask when you meet someone, after what their name is. When I said psychology, I was asked why? I told them I was raped by my uncle when I was 13, and that the psychologists I worked with not only saved my life, but changed it! They gave me the inspiration I needed to focus everything I had on academics. As a result I graduated high school in 2 years, and got my bachelor's in 2 years 3 months! In the car ride back to his apartment, Lee said “My god you are an incredible woman! What you went through would have killed me! If it didn't, and I somehow managed to NOT kill myself, I know that I would have been so depressed, I would have likely dropped out of school, certainly not worked so hard I finished it in 2 years, and then repeat that in college… Oh, AND maintain some semblance of a social life! You’re like a fckn' superhero, Baby! I don’t know WHAT you see in me, but you are the most amazing, smartest person I’ve ever met! You truly amaze me!” Now THAT was a friggin' compliment! When all one gets are compliments on one’s appearance, it can go one of two ways; either the person gets an overinflated ego, and becomes intolerable, or she starts to dislike compliments based strictly on her appearance. I never said that complimenting me on my appearance was BAD, I simply said THAT it’s not what I prefer as a compliment, compared to complimenting my accomplishments.

@Cute_Miss_Laura Yes, I take your sentiment. And I agree your fellow is very lucky, and you are an inspirational young woman. I think what is most impressive about you is your ability to look towards the light, rather than fall into hopelessness, bitterness or negativity. Which I'll be honest with you, I still struggle with to this day.
Although I did have one other thought. Women might find comments on their looks tiresome due to the volume. I mean, you're a young woman, you probably get six a day, ha. For a man, one can go literally a decade without any positive affirmation. So I would be thrilled to get a compliment on my looks. And as I say, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. You kind of know what kind of place it's coming from. It can come from a place of purity or a place of lust. You two ladies I'm sure are aware of the difference.
Oh, just a little sidenote. But I was most intrigued by a conversation you had with s.. she. I just saw it in passing admittedly and didn't analyse it. She is certainly one hell of a character here.

I met an American artist yesterday. She gave me lots of hugs. She was lovely but bloody hell is her accent strong.
@Levin What do you mean “strong”, do you mean in contrast to the wispy, light, breezy English SCOUSE accent? I lived in England, Britain has it’s share of atrociously strong accents 🤣 😂 .
As for what you wrote to me… Okay, yes, it is probably in large measure due to the tiresome nature of getting compliments on your face, your ass, and your tits quite literally from the minute they reach critical mass, and suddenly start to gain the unwanted attention of grown men! I think for most, it starts when a creepy uncle, or grandfather’s eyes flit from our eyes to our tits and back 15 times a minute, while they’re talking to us. After that, we begin to notice the looks. Then boys at school start telling us how “pretty" we are, before long guys online are telling us so often, 28 out of 30 messages on instagram could be from guys we do not even know telling us how beautiful, gorgeous, or stunning we are. So I guess there is an element of getting tired of hearing it. However, I’m self aware enough to know that if nobody ever told me that I was beautiful again…. I would think something was wrong with me! But I still prefer genuine compliments on something I accomplished or overcame. That is way more important, to me anyway.

Scouse is like, atrocious yes. Welsh, Scouse, Brummie, honestly, all probably deal breakers, ha.
She's from South Carolina. Strong not in an unpleasant way, it just sounds so different from how I speak. Like in terms of contrasts, I'd say her accent and my accent were completing contrasting. Hers is kind of bold, brash and confident. Mine's like warmer and northern. I do think American and English people get on well cause of the contrast.
Yeah, I get that. And honestly, I'm guessing it's made you suspicious and put off by older guys, too.
It's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations. The problem with being female and attractive is getting lots of attention, most of it is unfortunately unwelcome and inappropriate. However, if you had the shoe on the other foot and got no attention at all, then, hmm. If you hadn't had anything nice said about you for a number of years, then, also, hmm. ha.

When a few of my students wished the rest of their teachers were as supportive as me
When they asked why their math teachers don't teach math like I do
When they say I'm the best teacher, or specifically the best teacher they've ever had
When they say they don't think any other teacher on campus makes the time sacrifices to provide students with plenty of meaningful feedback
When I return tests and they look at all my feedback before looking at the grade
When a student wishes I had been scheduled to teach each science section they took
When a student drops a course as soon as they find out I'm not the one teaching it

From my boss, judging the work I did: “at least it doesn’t have to be completely redone”.
Jokes apart, it usually doesn’t happen a man receives compliments (especially from the other sex). Excluding the ones coming from grandmas, mom and old people, the best one has been “you got an expressive visage”
Now the set up for this is important and has everything to do with why I liked the complement…I was doing my daily 5 mile walk and this really good looking younger guy was coming towards me on a bicycle heading towards the university. He slowed, wobbled a bit, looked me in the eye, smiled., said “Well, he-loooh!” then sped up again. Then I heard “What a hunk o’ woman! WHOOOOO!” Now THAT was flattering.
My bosses and coworkers struggling to find a way to tell me to do my job less well, without actually telling me to f*ck around or milk the clock. They’re telling me that i’m doing my job too well. The people i rely on for support can’t keep up. And i’m the new guy.
First off I want to see the evidence, if you don't mind. I've encountered a fee close calls but never a true specimen.
As far as compliments, honest, softhearted, to trusting and things that could be criticism but was said out of concern for my wellbeing by a sweet and pretty woman.
I was told that my vibe was beautiful, my outfit, my makeup, my hair and my smile. And that I have a sweet spirit. I never met none of the people but it felt good to know they could see all that by just meeting me.
I'm a guy, and not in the top 5% of looks. The only compliments I ever get are on my work. That's not unusual - it's the norm for the vast majority of men. We don't get personal compliments other than from our mothers or grandparents.
My fiancé told me he feels like being with me, is the closest he can get to feeling Gods love on this earth. He always call me, “My Goddess, My Queen, My Love.” My heart melts whenever he says this.
My mom said I look like Brad Pitt.😐 Almost flattering but, total nonsense. She’s an elder Asian lady from the Philippines getting her white guys mixed up again. Smh. Nice try tho.
My ex told me while we were dating, "you're the most beautiful girl i've ever dated" really gave me a confidence boost but also meant he had bad taste lol

Well, that's worth something! I have a refrigerator magnet that says "The more men I meet, the more I like my dog!." It was a gift from a friend who knows me well. All the same, I'm not sure how true it is because I do like men but... I really, really like my dog, too!
