A male colleague and I got close one evening over drinks after work, we don't work together and it's the first time we socialised together.
That evening we started talking properly, he told me how I was ignoring him in the office when he wanted to talk to me in the past (few years ago) and how I was so different now to before. We had a great evening, we had a great chat , he made me laugh so much. At the end of the evening he asked me out for dinner to which I said yes. We left it at that that evening.
However, a couple of days later he got in touch to say sorry, that hopefully he didn't cross the line and that he didn't really want to start dating from the office (due to bad past experience). We ended up talking on the phone for an hour. At the end of the phone call, he said, he couldn't believe he was going to ask me again since he didn't intend to at the beginning of the call, but if I still wanted to have dinner together... To which I said yes. And that was that. He knows how I feel about him. But I don't want to push it if he really feels so uncomfortable about going out with me. I do feel quite hurt or disappointed although I know I should not take it personal...
We have kept in touch since then, he would text me every now and then etc but I don't know... I do really like him and I'm scared that I will like him too much at one point if I don't distance myself from him now and he will never actually want to go out with me and give it a try, anyway. I understand where he is coming from, I have no interest myself to publicise anything in the office but I just feel its's a shame - I genuinely thought he actually liked me, too. I'm just so confused right now... and miserable.
Is he just not that into me that he would like to take that "risk"? Guys, is working in the same office such a deal breaker?
What should I do?
