What was your worst work microwave experience?

This might be the number one thing I don’t miss about the office. This and commuting.

My worst experiences were:

1. In the morning I was just going to heat up a small muffin to go with my coffee and opened up the microwave and it stunk like fish someone cooked the day before. 🤢 Only thing worse than fish in the work microwave is next day fish smell in the work microwave.

2. When I was pregnant with my oldest I sat near the kitchen. One co-worker used to heat up some garlicky sausage dish every day. It was so bad I had to move to the conference room to avoid puking. 🤮

3. Someone cooked chili in the microwave, exploded it everywhere and didn’t bother to clean it up. 😠

About the only thing I use one for is to heat up day-old pizza, soften a stick of butter, thaw bacon or make popcorn. Now that I have a toaster oven and don't even eat popcorn anymore, I really have no use for it other than the soften butter which only takes 11 seconds.
As for the bacon, I've found that if I just run the sealed pack under hot water for a few moments, it works almost as well as having to wait 15 or 20 minutes for the MW to do it!
As for the stinky food in the lunch room, I know all about that horrific smell!!
The worst incident I've ever had to deal with was about 8 years ago from a woman that was smart enough to know better!! She was in her 30's, was in charge of the mailings and some of printing jobs in the print shop and had a 7 or 8 year old daughter so, you'd THINK she'd know better by now, nearly 50 years after the microwave was invented!! We're all working out in the print shop running our various machines when she goes into the lunch room and puts her thermos into the MW to heat up whatever was in it, sets it for a few minutes, goes back to the office until her thing is done heating up and doesn't seem to notice all the sparks coming from it AT ALL as she heads for the lunch room door 10 feet away to go back to her office!! HOW could you POSSIBLY be THAT obvlivious to something THAT obvious?
Within a minute, the entire luchroom was COMPLETELY filled with thick black smoke because both doors were shut and nobody was inside!! Someone out in the shop saw the black smoke and alerted everyone and someone managed to go inside and shut off the MW or, maybe, it just finished the time it was set for!! I think we had to leave the building for a few minutes to let the smoke and stench out of the place!! When it was all clear, she went into the lunch room to get her thermos and just sheepishly, laughingly said she was sorry, that she didn't know putting a metal thermos into a microwave was gonna do that!! REALLY? HOW?
They had to buy a new glass dish because her thermos welded itself to the one inside and it was partially blackened and cracked right across the middle!! The room still stunk like burnt metal for a few days after that!

Went to warm up a bear claw and pressed 10 minutes instead of 1 minute. I wasn't paying attention and 5 minutes later smoke was pouring out of the microwave and set off the fire alarm. This was at the office and a couple hundred people got a 30 minute break as everyone evacuated the building.

Had a coworker burn the hell out of some popcorn. To the point there was no escaping the smell. Because when I opened the microwave smoke came out of the damn thing. Luckily the the room had a camera in it. So when I got blamed for it the guy that did it was caught on camera cooking the popcorn. Don't cook popcorn in the microwave unattended. Watch that crap when you are cooking it!

I had some small breakfast sausages and I had never microwaved them before. A lady at work said that she knew how to do it and micro'd them for me. She went way too long and they were charred and smoking, and it filled the lunch area with the grossest burn sausage smell and we had to open the door to vent the place out. I don't know what she was thinking.

Someone put meat balls in the microwave and didn’t put a napkin over it, when they were heating it up. They made huge mess and didn’t even try to clean it. I saw them do, but I didn’t want to embarrass them, so I didn’t say anything.

I haven't had a work one but at home a couple of years ago I was just hearing something up, and it started making a strange sound so I turned it off and opened the door, downward opening door. It's about head height, as I looked in to see what was going on, the inner glass panel of the door 3 inches below my face shattered with explosion force. Absolutely shit my pants 🤣🤣

My worst microwave experience was installing one. We removed an old one, and not only were there differences that needed adjusting the mounting, but there was a need to drill new holes for the cord, adjust the venting system, and grind out some ceramic tile. Many hours of work!

We have not had an stories like that but I think I once burned my hand by boiling edamame in the microwave and spilling a few drops on myself. I was not allowed to cook when I was younger so I tried to boil my water in the microwave instead.
