My parents never packed my lunch. My dad would leave a dollar on the kitchen table. I remember we had these horrible green trays for your meat and side dishes. You'd grab a small carton of milk from the fridge, your green tray, silverware. Choose between a couple of main dishes, something like pizza vs mystery meat. Then the lunch lady slapped on the potatoes and corn. You'd be extra nice to the lunch lady, in case you forgot your dollar one day and she'd throw in for you. And you'd go find some kid to sit with who didn't look like he'd blow boogers on you or beat you up.
i can't even name half the horrible shit i got xD horrible as in taste, not health. my mum was on her hippy health phase around that time. so i mostly got vegetables and powerfoods that nobody ever heard of. it was probably really good for me but i didn't like it.
My parents bought me microwave meals to heat up when we are too busy to cook and I once tried this microwaved ham that I thought was disgusting, I hate the taste of pork and will only eat it if it’s so processed that it no longer tastes like pork.
My mother used to make egg salad sandwiches as a treat. I hated those things. I would get nauseous trying to eat one.

Some years ago, at work, we always kept our lunches in the fridge in the break room. There was this bag in there that was at least several days old. No one claimed it so finally, my co-worker opened the bag and found a biology project inside. We took guesses as to what the green, brown, purple and white stringy mold was originally, with the general consensus being a Tuna fish sandwich and some grapes.
So you are telling me that your parents packed lunch for you when you went to school? 😐. Yeah! I never had that luxurious live style, in Iraq, we had breakfast at home at 7 am, lunch when we get back from school 🤷♂️.
Ok first let me clarify this by saying my mom is a great mom, and our lunches were always good but there was one item that I didn't fully consider back then, particularly since. It was usually to denote my having done something good. In later years I thought "really, ewwww" what you ask was it?

Day old McDonald's is still good wtf. I usually packed my own and leftovers were regular. I did not remember how hamburgers were made and took a raw patty wrapped in foil once.
