They are depicted as pizza and burger eating human beings by the popular culture. I am curious about what are their main diets, infamous dishes etc.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yAmericans eat a lot of meat and cheese. Cured meats such as salami, bologna, ham, turkey, hotdogs, sausage, and bacon are popular. Chicken is the most popular meat especially with those who are more health conscious and in lower income households because chicken is inexpensive compared to beef and pork. Chicken, beef, and pork are the most popular meats, but turkey, veal, deer, duck, rabbit, and even alligator meat is common especially in the midwest. A lot of midwesterners hunt for their own meat with deer being the most popular. Pinto beans, black beans, and sometimes kidney beans are sometimes used as a protein instead of meat. Popular cheeses in america include cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, monterey jack, and colby jack. But cheeses like brie, munster, blue, and ricotta are used too. For grains we eat a lot of bread especially white bread. Meat is typically breaded with bread crumbs or flour. Breaded fried food is common, but it can be baked too. Air frying is becoming popular as a healthier alternative to those who can afford it. An air fryer is about a couple hundred dollars. Rice is more common in African American as well as mexican households, and of course in Asian American households, but its not very popular among white americans. Pasta is very popular. Popular dishes include chicken noodle soup, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti in a red sauce typically paired with meatballs, fettuccine alfredo, beef stroganoff, and instant ramen. Americans have a fascination for international food. And while dishes are usually changed to appeal more to American palettes, losing its authenticity, take-out is common, which often preserves most of the authenticity. Tex mex has a large presence in the u. s. which includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, nachos, and carne asada. Americans love big pieces of meat like burgers with quarter pound patties, and steak. Many americans do not eat enough fruit and vegetables, especially the latter. But common vegetables are broccoli, carrots, celery, spinach, iceberg lettuce, dark leaf lettuce like romaine, corn, asparagus, kale, arugula, and collard greens. Common fruits include tomatoes, apples, strawberries, grapes, bananas, different orange varieties, raspberries, blueberries, plums and prunes, and eggplant. Onions, shallots, garlic, and a variety of herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme or used as aromatics. Dairy and eggs are also very popular. Americans consume a lot of milk, butter, and yogurt. Preprepared foods are common, as well as dehydrated fruit, cured meat, and nuts. Americans are often overworked, with an individual supporting themselves having to work 40-80 hours a week. We are exhausted and struggle to make home cooked meals, and many americans rely on food banks which are known for carrying mostly carbs like bread and prepackaged foods which are always some form of meat cheese and bread or pasta, such as pizza rolls, or macaroni and cheese. When me and my last partner were reliant on our local food bank all we ever received was donuts and other confectionaries that were already going bad, and cans upon cans of garbanzo beans. No eggs no milk rarely anything fresh and if it was it was already starting to mold or half mush. The poor diet that americans are known for has only developed in the last century as a result of kids growing up with little access to a variety of fresh foods and home cooked meals, which leads to adults that only like meat cheese and bread. We are overworked and underpaid and our government is constantly taking money from food corporations allowing them to spread misinformation that leads us to believe that foods like those with high amounts of addictive sugar are good for us, causing us to spend more money on processed foods. A lot of americans really do believe that these companies care about them and wouldn't feed them anything that wasn't good for them.

Opinion Owner+1 yFood like everything else in america has been made into a business, only interested in making money even if it means being deceptive and manipulating people.
A day of food in the life of a midwestern American of european ancestry may look like this:
Breakfast: cereal, yogurt with granola and sometimes pieces of candy, or eggs usually with bacon or sausage, toast or pancakes. A bacon or sausage egg and cheese sandwich is a popular on the go option.
Lunch: on the go sandwiches are common with either peanut butter and jelly, or some kind of cured meat like bologna, turkey, or ham, cheddar cheese, sliced tomato, a lead of lettuce, mayonnaise, and sometimes mustard. At home, you may see hotdogs with mustard, ketchup, relish, or cheddar cheese, on a bun or just a slice of bread.
Dinner: burgers, steak, pasta such as spaghetti in a tomato sauce are common. Sides vary based on local agriculture but canned vegetables like corn, green beans, and peas are common. Corn is usually buttered, green beans are salted, and peas can sometimes be covered in mayonnaise. Potatoes are very pppular and are in maybe a third of all dinners. Forms include baked, mashed, or fried in a variety of different shapes.
Dessert: ice cream, pie, chocolate chip cookies, or sweetened canned fruit such as peaches or apricots.
I spent a lot of time putting this together please give it a thumbs up and let me know if i should add anything else! Hope this helps!

We eat all sorts of dishes… As far as a hamburger or a pizza there is nothing wrong with it, but I might eat a hamburger once or twice every six months if even that. Same is typically true for pizza. My last meal was a Mediterranean salad which is a mix of chickpeas, cucumbers, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, pickled pepperoncini peppers, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, red onion, green onions, garlic, feta cheese, and diced herbs dressed with red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, etc. The meal before that was leftovers from Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving I had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, salad, pumpkin pie, ice cream, wine, and coffee. It was a lot of food being that Thanksgiving is a feast holiday, so I had left overs for several meals. Before Thanksgiving I think the last main meal I had was some beef and bean chili I made at home. What I cook tends to be all over the place. Sometimes it’s Italian, Portuguese, Tex-Mex, Cuban, Peruvian, Asian Fusion, Korean, Japanese, French, Southern BBQ, Southern comfort food, Americanized Chinese food, Greek, seafood, etc. It all depends on what ingredients I have on hand and what I feel like cooking.

Food containing extremely unhealthy amounts of processing, salt, sugar (or false sugar which is worse), corn syrup, artificial flavors and colors. You name it it passes all forms of US human grade food appropriate approval. But the healthier stuff gets blocked at the borders. Irony.
Even fruit and veggies taste awful/bland if you have ever eaten any outside of the US.
Most gum sold in the US contains phenylalanine, which is know to cause seizures, sleep disorders, mental impairments and long list of others.
And
Aspartame which is linked to diabetes, auto-immune disorders, birth defects, and several forms of cancer.
This warning if often slapped on food packaging… yum!

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yWell America is made up of different cultures. The food you described is American junk food, not traditional household food. I'm latina so I eat mostly Mexican dishes. I love salad and fruits also. I drink mostly water and lemon water. I don't eat/drink anything with caffeine. I don't drink soda. I don't really eat cereal. Most of the cereals are loaded with sugar it's like eating a candy bar. The cereal I do like is Cheerios whole grains. That's a healthy choice. It has essential vitamins and isn't sugary.
I eat pizza and fastfood sometimes but that's like on 4th of July, someone's birthday or the Superbowl, some special occasion. I try to add salad though so I don't over eat. It's not an everyday meal.

+1 yMostly foods derived from the cultures of the people who populated it. Certain changes had to be made to accommodate the lack of plants that didn't grow here, but the differences typically aren't huge.
We do eat a LOT more fast food than Europeans or Asians do; it's a consequence of the way our culture developed (we're the third biggest country on both population and area, but our population density is FAR down the list; that has predictable effects). That's more a matter of where you get it than what you get, though. The biggest practical differences you'll actually see in our respective diets are portion size- we eat WAY more- and additives- we're WAY less picky about what we'll put in.

+1 yThere are regions within the US wherein the principal components of diet vary to some degree. I believe we’re also an immigration supercenter. So individual people and families can differ sometimes greatly even from the region in which they live. Then there are the gluttonous tendencies many of us indulge.
During the week i eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, and drink juice, water and meal replacement protein shakes. On the weekends, i make up for that discipline with eating whatever i crave if i can find it. Lots of buffalo wings, for example. I used to eat a lot more sammiches, but California doesn’t have many great sammich shops. I miss “grinders” so much. Ugh! For all the great reasons to hate this state, mine is probably the dumbest. Ell oh ell!00 Reply
+1 yIt depends on the area of America you live in.
I can speak for the Midwest: we eat a lot of pizza and meatloaf, mashed potatoes, hotdogs and cheeseburgers, macaroni, BBQ like steak and ribs, and gooey butter cake is a unique dessert here in MO.10 Reply457 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. yesterday i had eggs, salad, noodles, rice and edamame, not one dish different times of the day

+1 yIn the US we eat almost everything available in other countries, because the US is just every country mashed up together in terms of people. So if it's a type of food or dish, you can get it here in most towns/cities, with maybe the only exception being that we typically don't eat bugs. So you aren't going to find for example, fried crickets (etc.) in 99.9% of the US. We also probably have some dishes not found elsewhere, but I don't know what those would be.

00 Reply697 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. It's a bit silly to think about since it's like asking "What do Europeans eat" or "What do Asians eat". That's a lot of people spread across a large surface. Food in the UK is very different from food in Italy, yet that's a much smaller distance than California to New York.

+1 yThose are the "infamous" dishes. It really depends on the person. It is a fact that Americans are probably the most unhealthy eaters on the planet with the most obese and diabetic children on the planet. But NOT all Americans eat this badly. What do you eat normally?

That would be NORTH America, silly- the Darien gap is hundreds of miles south of Mexico. While it's probably true that Mexican cuisine is hardly unknown in, say, Brazil, they also have their own.
