Now I'm a bit sceptical here, you can buy a tin of soup for less than dog food, in fact it's not hard to find human food cheaper. It's not like we're a third world country (yet).
So, do you think these stories have any merit or are they bollocks?
I don't get it, too.
I mean, brown rice. a £1.50 bag from aldi, will probably give you a 100 servings.
Organic oats, a few quid, equally lasts for ever.
Bread costs next to nothing.
Peanut butter.
You can bulk buy beans for some stodge.
Veg costs a little more but is hardly ruinously expensive from the likes of aldi.
Get some seasonings for flavour.
I mean, before you know it, you have some pretty decent and cheap meals. And ones that are likely a lot healthier than the crap most of the population are eating.
I’m sure of it. I’ve never witnessed it myself, but the logic pans out. Destitute people with pets need to feed themselves too. That can of soup doesn’t do much for Fido, and even less for Fuzznuts. So buy the pet food and share. I used to eat dry dog food when i was young. We WERE poor, but not THAT poor. I just tried a nugget one day and liked it. The flavor wasn’t bad, but there was something delightful about the texture! Also, it’s good practice to take something out of your dog’s bowl and eat it from time to time in order to preserve the hierarchy.
As someone said you can buy a decent meal - or products, such as uncooked beans / rice - for multiple meals for rather cheap. But it takes time to prepare that meal.
Whereas a can of Frisky wet food... you open it & eat it. No preparation. This is important to note because sometimes seniors can't pay the bill for their stoves.
Guy literally got on the news & recounts his tale
If you google it you can find articles on seniors eating cat food, I am not high enough level to post links but comically can post the video
I've heard of it, but never seen it... that said, my dogs food cost a ton, $85 dollars a bag for the dog food and $30 for their favorite treats, and that lasts about a month so I suppose that is cheaper that human food.
As I can easily spend $400 a month on food for me.

I think it's some media BS and I have read similar articles in local press here. Financially it makes no sense, because cans of beans with bacon, ravioli or "English goulash" so royally is called mystery meat in gravy here cost the same.
When i was little there were people who ate pig brains and pet food for meals.
Pig brains just taste like thick clotted cream in my opinion
I think the story is BS, even that over all dog food is pretty heathly in the end, just need to soften it
But I think its BS becouse if its there like here dog food is exspincive over all
Yeah, the elderly do it fairly often I've heard. They can't really taste it as much.
Sad as hell though. Pretty fucked how our supposedly rich western civilization can't seem to provide food or affordable housing for it's people.
I can't speak for the UK but I know that there are folks in the US who do this based on reports from churches and food banks.
Same thoughts as you, pet food even cheap stuff is still like 50p a can, you can get a can of chopped toms or beans for like 30p in Aldi
It's actually not bad, according to those who claim to have tried it. Some people just got to have meat.
No. It is more expensive and not nutricious for humans.
I never heard of this, but that's kinda disgusting. Who would wanna eat pet food? There are other ways to get food for cheaper price depending where to go for that or there could food pantries that can be willing to help.
I heard that a lot of elderly people are eating dog food. Their favorite is Alpo.
It may happen but have you seen the price of pet food. It is just ridicules.
Some might. I tasted dog/cat food. Tastes like cereal.
If British families are eating pet food, I would say that's an upgrade. Most people put them somewhere below the animal kingdom, slightly above single-celled organisms.
now I am wondering... if workers are thinking or wondering if I eat all that cat food myself
I have seen someone eat dogfood before so yes. I believe it.
I've don't think that's true. Pet food isn't cheap either. There's plenty you can buy to munch on that's as cheap or cheaper than dog food.
Maybe if they're mentally ill or just plain stupid. Because there's all kinds of places to score free human food. If they would just rather eat catfood then that's on them.
I’ve heard those stories too years ago when I was young, it’s probably true
No. Per calorie, pet food is more expensive than people food. This is a bullshit story.
Pet food is more expensive here too! Sounds like tripe
